“Great deal, lovely hotel”
Reviewed August 4, 2009

Rooms are decorated in a modern-asian style. The staff was very helpful and friendly- especially the valets and bell hops. Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville is on the property and always serves delicious food.

Beach is easily accessed across the street. Premium location- also across from (the famous) Duke's Canoe Club at the Outrigger. Shopping is right at street-level.

Hotel offers a complimentary courtesy room for cleaning up/showering, up to 30min of use, so you can still enjoy the beach after you check out but before heading to the airport.

Shuttle to airport is only $9.00
Valet parking only- but very efficient and professional.

This is a very nice hotel for the price. Rooms are not huge American-style, more European in size. Well-appointed with refrigerator, flat screen TV, coffee maker, lanai, & wired internet access (ethernet wire is even provided). There are a couple of drawbacks, parking is valet only and $18/day and I could find only 1 accessible electrical outlet in the room! If you're only staying in Waikiki you don't need a car. Take the bus, it's cheap and astonishingly efficient. BTW, I don't think there's an absolutely quiet hotel anywhere in Waikiki. Go to another island is you're looking for quiet.

This was our second stay at the Beachcomber. The renovations look great both in the lobby area and in the rooms. We made several requests and the staff was always ready to assist us in any way possible. I would absolutely return to this hotel. We all had a great time. Thanks and ALOHA!

My family stayed at the beachcomber by default, as we were upgraded there (for an extra fee) from the hideous Ohana West. Having been to Hawaii many times, I have always stayed in Ohana properties & they are generally of a similar, average standard. My family & I were blown away when we were shown our rooms at the Beachcomber, as they were the best we had ever stayed in while in Hawaii. Sleek, modern decor with a touch of Hawaiiana. Huge comfortable beds, large flat screen TV, modern bathrooms & loads of storage. The pool area is gorgeous, looking out over Kalakaua ave. The best part of the room was the spacious lanai that looked directly onto the Royal Hawaiian & the water. We had wonderful service for the two week stay & no complaints. Awesome location, close to everything. We will definitely stay there again... Aloha!

Spent a week with the family (3 to 80 years old) at the Beachcomber. Great location (next to the International Marketplace with easy access to Waikiki Beach). Rooms were clean, housekeeping was great, front desk was very good (except for one male evening clerk who didn't seem to be very informed). Only complaints are 1. waiting for elevators (slow and crowded) and 2. not enough shade at poolside (to enjoy happy hour or relax by the pool). All in all it was a good place to stay and I would recommend it if you're going to Waikiki and want to be near everything.

Jimmy Buffet's Beachcomber restaurant is located there - alittle pricey, okay food, slow service when we went at lunch (and it wasn't very crowded). We preferred eating at Duke's (great breakfast buffet-good value and right on the beach!).

Lots of vendors and solicitors hanging out in front of hotel/market place (if you like to be handed flyers, given sales pitches or have parrots placed on your shoulder, this is the location for you!). Just cross the street to bypass most of the craziness! Easy and fast access to the beach (bring sunscreen!).

We were just in Hawaii and made the Ohana Beachcomber our home for the week. I couldn't ask for a better location. You are in the heart of the downtown core with only a 3 minute walk to the main Waikiki beach. You can also easily walk to the zoo and aquarium (we did) and loads of shopping and restaurants in the area. We would go back in a heartbeat. Couple of tips: book your snorkelling tour through the outrigger hotel, they take you out on a catamaran with an oceanographer and snorkelling expert. Best place to swim with the turtles. Second don't bother with the Moana waterfall. The hike is straight up a dissolving path and there is not much of a waterfall (tricklefall as my son called it). Last tip stay as far away from the cabbies as possible! they are rude and will demand more money from you if they don't think your tip is big enough! Rent a car, you are free to explore the entire island and hit all the beaches and you don't have to worry about dealing with an ignorant person!

We stayed there for 10 days in two rooms and were pleased with our choice. We weren't as concerned about the size of the room as some other reviewers, as this is Hawaii, and who wants to spend their stay in the room? We were in the room for sleeping and changing - that's about it. Some reviewer have complained about the lack of beach view from the ocean-facing rooms, but it's not the fault of this property, but of the high-rise hotels that went up across the street later.

We have nothing but good to say about the front desk staff. There were enough on duty at all times that we never had to wait to get service.

We were pleased with the food at Jimmy Buffets. Maybe the service wasn't as timely as other places, but we were on vacation and in no rush. The food was reasonably priced, and if you show your room key you get a 15% discount off your bill.

Only two very minor points that detracted from the room - the refrigerators had no freezer compartment. We had a microwave, but no way to keep frozen food so we had to eat out every day of our stay. The other was the sliding shutters. They did not keep the light out very well. Curtains would have been better. I do agree with many reviews concerning the elevators.
