Waikiki Luxury To The Maximum

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 20, 2019
I've stayed next door at Sheraton Waikiki for 9 yrs and always hosted my Oct birthday soiree at Royal Hawaiian's AZURE restaurant. This year I treated myself to a week of Royal Hawaiian class - YAY I've totally indulged in their spoiling me, the staff rocks, Mailani 16th Floor room was amazing, the grounds are inimitable the salt water pool was awesome (please do not say it's too tiny or you should go elsewhere like next-door to Sheraton's big pool). Booked Pink chaises on the beach 2 days - hey $40 a day for this rocked. From the moment I arrived at the Porte Cocherre I was met with warmth, a lei & smiles. Every person when I'd be waiting for car service was warm & welcoming and engaged me in fun conversation. Thank you Royal Hawaiian for being the amazing class Hotel that you are - please do not change! PS folks...dining at AZURE for dinner will rock your palate - yes I'm a San Francisco foodie and that's why I host my Birthday soiree annually at AZURE.I'll be back again to Royal Hawaiian Mailani Tower!

Room Tip: Treat yourself to a luxurious Waikiki experience!

Our family recently visited The Royal Hawaiian. We were there for one week in June 2019. The hotel was beautiful inside and out. Our room in the historical wing was small but we spent most of our time our exploring. The pool area next door at the Sheraton was amazing. We loved this hotel and its location would absolutely go back again!

Aloha Jsgrld,

Thank you for choosing to stay at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort. We are thrilled to hear that you had a memorable stay with us, and that the hotel's location and the Helumoa Playground were both great.

We do regret that the Historic Wing room that you stayed in was a bit cozy. In the future, we would recommend our all-ocean facing Mailani Tower for a more comfortable stay. The Mailani Tower rooms also all come with outdoor lanais for extra space and comfort.

We look forward to welcoming you back again in the future.

Mahalo,
Ayaka H.

Stayed 3 nights at the hotel in Oct 2019. We had a king room in the old building and found it to be quiet and comfortable. The beds and pillows were soft and made for a good sleep.

The hotel public areas and ground are very nice and it is a short walk to the Royal Hawaiian shopping area and restaurants along Kalakaua Ave. With all the old trees and shrubs around the hotel it really is like an oasis in the middle of a big city and busy beach.

We had breakfast each day at the Surf Lanai buffet and it was quite good. Had to wait for a table a couple times, but not for long. I had selected the free breakfast as my Elite perk and was very happy I did because we visited the Club lounge on our first night and were extremely disappointed. The main snack they had out at dinner was cut up old soft pretzels and a couple salads. We did not return to the club lounge the rest of our stay, so cannot say for sure if the breakfast offerings were as bad or not, but I would recommend getting the breakfast vouchers for the restaurant if your status allows for it.

Staff in all areas of the hotel were just fantastic and friendly. Waikiki beach is right off the front of the property and there are lounge chairs on the beach (for a fee). The last time we stayed here in 2011 the chairs were free so thats an unfortunate change considering they charge a fairly heathly resort fee on top of the room rate already.

All in all we were very happy with our stay here and would not hesitate to stay again if we are in Honolulu in the future.

Room tip: We like the old building king room

Aloha BR2016Canada,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort. We are delighted to hear that you had a memorable three-night stay with us, and found the location, breakfast at Surf Lanai, and the staff at our property to all be fantastic. We do however, regret that the offerings at our Mailani Lounge did not meet your expectations.

We are constantly working to make improvements to our hotel offerings, and will be sure our lounge offerings are reviewed in order to provide our guests with a more pleasant experience at our lounge. With both breakfast and evening appetizers offered daily to our guests staying in Mailani Tower, we are disappointed that you decided not to return to the lounge during the duration of your stay. This is obviously not the type of experience that we strive to offer our guests, so please do know that we take your feedback seriously and will do what we can to make improvements.

We thank you again for your thoughtful feedback, and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again in the future.

Mahalo,
Ayaka H.

Positives..amazing beautiful hotel in best location. Rooms are large and well kept. Incredible soft beds and pillows. Public areas beautiful!
Negatives..noisy neighbours kept us awake , walls a bit thin. No view in cheaper king historic rooms. Service extremely slow at times in Mai Tai bar.

Aloha Pineapple766,

Thank you for choosing to stay at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort. We are thrilled that you had such a memorable experience with us, and found the location, history, and rooms to be great. We do however, regret that there were several issues that did contribute to some negative experiences during your stay, including the slow service at Mai Tai Bar, the view from your room, along with the noise from the neighboring room.

Regarding the negative feedback, we are always working to make improvements to better service our guests, and will be sure the speed of service at Mai Tai Bar is addressed and reviewed with our Food and Beverage team. Additionally, there unfortunately is not too much that we can do regarding the walls of our guestrooms, however if you do choose to stay with us in the future, please let us know and we will be sure your feedback is noted, and do our best to accommodate a room on a more quiet side of our property.

We thank you again for your candid feedback, and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back again soon.

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel exceeded our expectations. The staff was friendly and we were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to our room. Waikiki beach was a sight to behold and we are already talking about returning to Hawaii in the future and staying there again.

My wife and I celebrated our 50th Birthday and 17th wedding anniversary here! We had let the hotel know prior to our arrival and they did a phenomenal job making us feel special!! It all started with Fonda Wong who went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was awesome! It was nice to see a bottle of champagne and chocolate dessert with a hand written celebratory note from Ms. Wong! The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are spacious with a classical touch! I would recommend this hotel!
