What a wonderful hotel, always breathtaking. Staff are super responsive and accommodating. Super fast room service and caring front desk manager. Love the tiki torches at night, vintage-chic building and the grand pink driveway. The kids spend all day at the awesome rock pool over looking the best view of Diamond head in Waikiki beach. 3rd trip this time and we’ll be back... thank you amazing Royal Hawaiian!

FANTASTIC!! Hotel is very well maintained, staff is super helpful and friendly, location can not be beat. Rooms are a bit on the smaller side, so if you're a large family consider this. Nearby shopping is terrific, food options plentiful. View of the Waikiki Beach area is a postcard! We're so happy we stayed here and would definitely stay here again!

Room tip: Ocean View, but prepare to hear the music at Mai Tai bar for a bit at night

I had never been to a luau before despite being in Honolulu many times . Just not tempted. And I wasn't really tempted this time either. But this one was good. Well worth going to. Lovely evening, outside, with the sound of waves... Sound good? Well the entertainment matched that delightful scene as did the buffet food.
Then listen to the story of Honolulu told by dances and song - and a pretty cool storyteller. An excellent Hawaiian experience and I would be tempted again!
Oh, get a tattoo... See what the real thing might look like!

Beautiful Royal Hawaiian Hotel is right on the beach. Very small pool but usually not crowded. The Royal Hawaiian is over 90 years old and in need of a few repairs here in there. The biggest complaint no Wi-Fi most of the time. Also we had some problems with hot water but it was fixed. If you hate crowded hotels this is probably the one you would like the best. Because of our water problem they did compass a beautiful breakfast. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Avis is the best at the front desk and Maria and the surf lanai restaurant is a wonderful hostess. A great waitress is Casey out by the pool. They should have bar service until seven or 8 PM in the summer time. It is ridiculous the pool area is basically closed after 6 PM.

For the price I expected a larger room. Property is well maintained and bed comfortable. Small pool not very interesting. Great beach location and umbrellas. Restaurants really good. Waikiki is too crowded

To call this a “luxury” hotel is laughable. The room is quaint, fun little ‘historical’ door and adornments, but certainly nothing special. Plus, both the safe and the hair dryer were broken. Basics I would expect to be functional at a 2 star hotel, completely useless here.
Then there’s the pool, which is comically small - about the size of a kiddie pool, and the few chairs are claimed super early. Likewise, the beach chairs are booked in advance, even though 1/2 are not used - they still will not release them. Instead they refer you to a neighboring property that will apparently give you access to their pool. Seriously?! No.
Finally, on our day of checkout we have an early morning obligation so we stopped by the front desk to be sure our valeted car would be available by the time we need to leave (6am). First we were told there’s only 1 person working then so they can’t really say how long it will take. Then the story changed and they said it will only take 5 minutes. Then the story changed again and they said we need to call 25 minutes in advance. This is simply ridiculously poor service. I would expect better at a bargain hotel, let alone “luxury.”
Don’t waste your money on this place, there are better options in Waikiki - the Royal Hawaiian is not worth the money by a long shot.

Aloha ldani074,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us at The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort. We appreciate your candid feedback, and truly apologize that we were unable to meet your expectations during your recent stay with us. I would like to take the moment to address your concerns below.

- Regarding the pool service, we regret to hear that our on-property Malulani Pool, along with our Helumoa Playground (shared with the Sheraton Waikiki hotel) were both disappointing options for you. To meet our guests' needs, our Malulani Pool offers a more intimate and relaxing pool experience, while our Helumoa Playground is more ideal for families with children, as it offers slides, whirlpools, and children-friendly offerings. And of course, Waikiki Beach is just steps away from the property. We apologize that these offerings did not meet your expectations.

- In regards to the beach chairs - as you have mentioned, due to the high demand and popularity, we do encourage our guests to book in advance as they sell out quickly. As a result of your feedback, we have now included this information in our guests' pre-arrival emails so that our guests can book this in advance of the trip. We hope that this helps to minimize guests being disappointed in finding out about the chairs being booked during their stays.

- I am very sorry about the confusion you faced from our team regarding your car, and the approximate timing that it will be available. We completely understand how frustrating this situation must have been for you, and take full responsibility for the unfortunate service you have received. We will be sure to take the time to discuss this incident with our staff and valet team, and make improvements on how this can be better communicated in the future.

We appreciate all of the helpful comments that you have shared with us, and will be sure your feedback is discussed with our team in order to make improvements. We thank you again for taking the time to share your comments with us.

Mahalo,
Ayaka H.
