In my 20+ years experience of traveling, this is by far the worst treatment ever at a 5 star hotel. Coming back from the beach, my family got locked out of the room because both key cards couldn't open the door. I called the security and he also couldn't open it, even using his master key card. The door's batteries were out. He called for back up but none came. It took 25 minutes to finally open the door. My family got in the room and he left. Still curious, I tried my key card and the door is still not reading my card. So I called the manager. The manager said over the phone, the locksmith have gone home because it was 5PM. I told him all that is needed is a battery change. He never fully assessed the situation and told me that I have to move to a different room. I refused because then we have to pack 3 luggage n a baby stroller, switch room and unpack again. And I am checking out the next morning. I told him that I am in a hurry due to a dinner reservation. The manager said that's the only thing he could do. So we obliged and tried to do it ASAP so we don't miss our dinner reservation. I was amazed that the manager never even consult with the security who helped us and made decision over the phone without even seeing me or at least the door that created the problem. What if I was in a medical emergency, needed to catch a plane or going to an important meeting? They don't seem to care about the comfort of their guests. I've never been treated this bad at any other establishments

This is one of the coolest hotels I have ever stayed in. Service, food, grounds, rooms and location were amazing. Very close to fabulous shopping and the heart of downtown. You could sit on a lounge chair at the beach, something I could not do at our hotel on kauai. The doors to the rooms are heavy, carved wood. This hotel has a lot of character.

This was a brief stopover after being in NY and my 2nd time at this beautiful hotel. The grounds are magnificent, the rooms spacious and the staff are courteous and friendly. It has a great history and I love the fact that it has retained it's charm and has not been modernised. The Mai Tai Bar was a great place to have a chat or just chill. The cocktails were amazing and I was able to taste 2 of the cocktails when I asked what they were. It is also not full of a million people wandering around like the other big hotels nearby. My only negative was that the 'daily resort fee' should also cover the hire of beach lounges.

Beautiful hotel, great service, and wonderful food -- the perfect way to start our vacation in Hawaii. I think I liked the hotel so much because every single employee that we encountered was truly helpful and friendly. Because of a 12 hour flight delay, we arrived at the hotel at 4 a.m. Even at that time of the morning, we still received a lei greeting upon arrival as well as a drink at check-in. We stayed in the Beach Tower and were upgraded to an ocean view room. The room was very comfortable and had obviously been recently updated. The location of the hotel was great -- the beautiful beach, shopping and restaurants all steps outside the hotel doors. The cost of self-parking was included in the resort fee, which was a definite benefit. We had a plan that included daily breakfast at the outdoor restaurant. The food and service there were outstanding, as was the dinner we had there one evening. Oahu is a very expensive island. The prices at the Royal Hawaiian were comparable to other similar resorts that I priced, and less than some resorts. Should we be fortunate enough to return to Hawaii, I definitely will return to the Royal Hawaiian.

Read that it Was one of the best hotels therefore I booked in it. I have to admit that their staff were amazing and try to satisfy all ur requests.
I was disappointed cuz I booked based on number of pools, they said its two while one is sharing with the Sheraton. The other 'infinite' pool was tiny and hardly fits the kids there. Unfortunatly a family member had an infection from that pool.
It's too crowded for my taste and very heavy classic decor.
Maybe others will like it.

We do indeed have two pools, one is our lounge and plunge pool specifically for Royal Hawaiian guests, while the second pool is the Helumoa Playground that we share with our sister property the Sheraton Waikiki.
