I stayed here for one night as a part of my honeymoon - we didnt realize how busy and loud of an area it was from the photos. The rooms were very nice, and the hotel did a great job making us feel special for being there for our honeymoon. If you are staying in honolulu, i would stay here.

A truly iconic location on possibly the best stretch of Waikiki beach. Excellent service overall but a few of the staff not properly trained how to interact with courtesy. The first "oceanfront" suite we were placed in overlooked the hvac system and you could see the ocean only by standing right in the window and looking sideways to the right. The alternate room they provided does have beautiful views but is not a suite at all, but rather a slightly larger than average room which they are continuing to insist is a junior suite. Bathroom is claustrophobic small with outdated fixtures. Pool is very very small. if you, like us, are willing to pay a luxury price and expect certain things in return- such as the suite that is advertised, a sufficiently appointed bathroom and courtesy from everyone you encounter, you will probably be disappointed here. The magnificent history of the Royal Hawaiian is not enough to overcome the practical disappointments you will find here.

Aloha Travelteam14 and thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your recent stay with us. We appreciate your lovely words about our iconic location, beautiful beach and excellent service. Thank you also for your feedback about the courtesy level of a few of our staff - we have brought this up to our training manager who will ensure updated training occurs immediately. We are sorry however, that you found our guestrooms and pool to be small, and we realise that being a historic building the rooms are smaller than some modern hotels, yet the unique thing about our 1927 building is that each room is like a fingerprint and differs both in size and shape. We do hope you enjoyed the contemporary, yet classic marble finishes and ornate furnishings following our renovation in 2009. Mahalo nui loa for choosing to stay with us and aloha from The Royal Hawaiian Team.

Locally known as the "pink hotel," the Royal Hawaiian Hotel (TRH) is not a local's first choice for a staycation. But we got hooked up with a great deal, so we gave it a try. Even with a discounted rate, the price was steep but worth a try. Check-in is a little unconventional as you sit down and chat like you are at a meeting. You are served juice, water, and even get a lei (a local way of saying Aloha and welcome!)
Our room was beautiful, but cozy (maybe cramped is a better word). The best part is the welcoming tray - an assortment of fruits, water, and Royal Hawaiian's delicious banana bread (a local favorite). The room itself was nice (recently they did a renovation), but you can tell there are remnants of the old here and there (especially with the not-so-cold a/c, but hey, you're in Hawaii). Unfortunately our refrigerator wasn't working, so we had to call for help. The maintenance worker mentioned upon changing it out that we should not expect it to work like a fridge, but more like a cooler. Bummer. Also, the noise from the hallway was quite irritating just because you can hear the conversations from people walking by and also the racket from the ice maker. But I think that's pretty standard anywhere you stay nowadays.
The location is great as it's beachfront property and TRH has a sectioned off area just for their guests. But the fight for chairs is seriously like a war - I've heard that people go at the crack of dawn and block off chairs with their belongings and towels and leave for the entire day. One of the mornings we were there, there was actually going to be a fight! Unbelievable!! I guess I feel like they should kind of regulate this in some way so there's not tons of chairs unoccupied for no reason. A lot of places to eat are all in walking distance of the hotel which is nice. There is self-parking which quite a walk, but if you are one who doesn't mind spending a little more (after all, you are staying at TRH), there's a valet for an extra fee.
Your stay will probably include a "Resort Fee" which I believe is like $20/day which includes a couple of drink coupons, wireless Internet access, meals for kids under 12, PARKING!, two bottles of water per day, amongst other things. Well worth it, I think.
Overall, our stay was nice and relaxing. I can see tourists really enjoying the "Hawaiian" experience here.

808chic, we are so glad that you gave The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort a try for your staycation and found our Pink Palace to be so nice and relaxing. Thank you for mentioning the little details we provide to make the stay extra special and for reinforcing the value of the resort charge inclusions. We are sorry to hear however, that you had a faulty mini-refridgerator, and we are glad to have fixed it right away for you. Mahalo also for your comments on the beach chairs - we have shared this feedback with our beach team and they are working very hard to perfect the procedures. As a Hawaii resident, we are grateful to you for joining us and for your wonderful words about the experience we offer. With aloha from The Royal Hawaiian Team.

It was our 2nd time to stay at this hotel and it was just as fabulous as the first. The attendants are first class, the service was impeccable, and you can't say enough about the location. Our two middle-school graduates simply had the best time at the beach and easy access to world class shopping. It is pricey, but because of it's private location and beautiful grounds, it will always favor over other hotels on this strip.

Room Tip: Check pricing for discounted beach front rooms. Stay at the towers to get awesome views.

We just returned from our stay at The Royal Hawaiian in a Royal Ocean Junior Suite. There are simply no words to properly describe this amazing hotel and the superb level of service they provide. Yes, this hotel can be a splurge, but you are paid back with an unforgettable experience in a beautiful, gracious hotel that perfectly blends old world charm and modern conveniences.

We've stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort and that compared to The Royal Hawaiian is like comparing a Carnival Cruise with a Celebrity Cruise. Carnival is fine if that is what you are looking for. You simply have to know what type of experience you want.

This is not a hotel for someone simply looking for a bed as they run from one O'ahu site to another. This hotel is for those looking to luxuriate.

The experience begins with a gracious greeting: a lei, a refreshing cool towel, and a pink drink (what else would you expect). You don’t check-in while standing at a counter; you are asked to take a seat while they check you in. It's a nod to a more refined time. Yes, there may be a line as you wait to take a seat, but you happen to be standing in almost perfect hotel lobby. Enjoy the moment!!

Our room had a spectacular view over Waikiki Beach and we were welcomed with a delicious banana cake and a full bottle of California sparkling (a pink rose…naturally).

We had a great experience at the Abhasa Spa (a couple’s lomi lomi massage under a cabana in the garden) although I do think the spa relaxation lounge could use some improvements.

We thoroughly enjoyed a spectacular 5-course tasting menu with wine pairing at Azure at a table that provided us with a perfect view of Diamond Head at sunset.

We also took full advantage of the Mai Tai bar and loved lounging under the pink umbrellas on Waikiki. We never had an issue obtaining a perfect spot at anytime of day.

We tried to take full advantage of the property and enjoy all it had to offer. All hotel staff greeted us with a smile and treated us like royalty. This Pink Palace of the Pacific truly lives up to its Royal Hawaiian name.

Room Tip: Definitely choose a room in the historic main building.
