This is our 5th time back to The Kahala and we can't wait to return again! If you're looking for a magical, relaxing, wonderful place to stay in Oahu, stay at The Kahala. From the moment you step out of your car and the friendly valets come to greet you with smiles, cold towels and fresh leis for the ladies and children and kukui nut leis for the gentlemen you know you've arrived in Hawaii. Everyone, from the valets that meet you at the door to the reception desk personnel, to the restaurant staff and even housekeeping personnel, everyone is just wonderful. They are used to meeting new people (and returning guests!) and it shows. Our girls (5 and 10 now) usually enjoy the cold "Kahala water" as they like to call it in the lobby (see picture) while we check in. The open air lobby (called The Veranda) serves afternoon tea which my oldest daughter just loves from 2:00 - 5:30 as well as any tropical drink you'd like. Our room is always spotless with plenty of towels, bottled water, toilettries, and a CD player playing wonderful Hawaiian music. The bellboy is usually right behind us with our bags and always helpful in answering any questions we might have. Also, there is usually nut fudge waiting for us on one of the tables, yum. The rooms have all been updated since the first time we came 5 years ago. Both, the old fashioned rooms they used to have and the new updated ones, are very large and very comfortable for a family of 4 with a large work desk, a corner table with chair, a chaise lounge and a very large flat screen tv. The lanais are also very good size. The mountain view rooms are very quiet and relaxing, the ocean view rooms are gorgeous. The beds are extremely comfortable with fluffy comforters. The bathrooms are huge with his and hers sinks and changing areas. They also have huge jacuzzi style bathtubs as well as regular showers. There is turndown service every night and you get your water restocked at that time as well as any additional items you may request. The morning housekeeping and the afternoon turndown service are both done without any disruption. Somehow they seem to know when you'll be out of the room and get everything done before you get back. We also enjoy the excellent breakfast buffet every morning and all the friendly hostesses (hi!) and excellent wait staff. The buffet is stocked with fresh fruits, yogurts, salads, cereals, juices, muffins, pastries, made to order omelettes and eggs, sausages, bacon, potatoes and an excellent Japanese breakfast bar to boot (miso soup, rice, pickled vegetables). If possible, make sure you get a rate inclusive of the breakfast buffet, it is definitely worth it. The pool is regular size, not too big and not too small, just perfect. There is usually a lot of families enjoying it throughout the day, however, it is never a problem to get a chaise lounge by the pool or by the beach which is only steps away from the pool. You can get your towels at the towel cabana by the pool. You can also buy any items you might have forgotten like pool toys or sunscreen. The towel cabana is also where you can rent beach cabanas (very nice) for the day, half day, or even hourly or book a standup paddle lesson. The beach is beautiful, very calm with palm trees on each side. Lovely, calm water for small children like ours! They have a swim up inflatable water slide type of structure docked just off the beach and every kid, young and old, seemed to be enjoying it immensely. There are also dolphins!! At the dolphin lagoon. There is a program run by Dolphin Quest and you can book a morning with the dolphins so you can feed and play with them. This dolphin lagoon is right next to the pool so you can sit all day and watch the dolphins play if you wish. This is a really nice bonus. At night there is soft dancing music or a local musician in the great open air lobby. Some mornings there is a wonderful lady that comes and teaches Hula lessons in the beautiful lobby to the children and anyone that would like to join in. My kids really enjoyed this. The Kahala is about a 15 minute drive from Waikiki in a residential area. There is a scheduled shuttle that can take you to the Kahala Mall (5 minutes from the hotel) and/or Waikiki (15 minutes) throughout the day. This is the only problem I can see at The Kahala. It is a small shuttle van and it gets filled up quickly so you need to make sure you make a reservation a day ahead if you would like to go to Waikiki for an afternoon and be able to catch the last shuttle back from Waikiki (this one seems to book up fast). There is always the option of renting a car (Hertz is on site) or just catching a cab back and forth (about $15.00 each way). Usually, we are always able to catch the shuttle TO Waikiki but not the return one so we always cab it back. If they added just one more shuttle in the afternoons that might help a lot, but then I wouldn't have anything to complain about! Overall The Kahala is the best place to stay in Oahu for a relaxing vacation on a calm, uncrowded beach, with wonderful service. We are already looking forward to our next stay!

We stayed here for the first leg of our honeymoon. We were advised to stay away from Waikiki because of the crowds. This place was perfect! A little on the pricey side, but you get a secluded, beautiful beach, wonderful rooms, great service and a few good restaurants. We also liked the fact that the hotel provided a list of restaurants, etc. to enjoy outside of the hotel. It's nice to know that they want to keep your money there, but they don't mind sending you out, and the recommendation on the restaurant was great. We only stayed for 2 nights, but everything about the hotel made the start of our honeymoon wonderful

Spent 3 days at the Kahala and really enjoyed it. As an upscale resort, it did a fantastic job. It's pricey but relative to other places, seemed worth it.

We celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary at The Kahala in July 2011. From the moment we arrived at the Hotel, we were looked after as if we were celebraties. We were taken to our room, with champange waiting. The room was absolutely fantastic, very clean and beautifully decorated, with lovely views over the mountains. All the staff were excellent and went out of thier way to make the stay even more pleasant. The breakfast buffet was really something special with food to suit every taste. The pool area and beach are so beautifull! We also swam with the resident dolphins, which was just fantastic, and was made even more special by the trainer's enthusiasm.
Overall a fantastic experience and would most definately return in the future and would highly recommend to anyone wishing to experience a luxurious hotel at its best!!!

Room Tip: the mountain view room we stayed in was just perfect

We are enjoying a family vacation in Hawaii. We stayed for two nights at the Kahala and had a wonderful time. The rooms are just perfect, we slept like angels, and the breakfast is simply wonderful. To have breakfast outside, next to the sea, for us, coming from the mountains, that is anyhow something real special. The staff is really incredible, almost everybody knows your name and they do a sensational job. We will return for sure and we can recommend it to everybody.

Ok so i was on honeymoon and the newly wed glow may have made me see everything in a +ve light. That aside this is a fantastic classical luxury hotel with an amaxing high ceiling foyer. Breakfast was excellent and the onsite sushi restaurant is well worth a visit. Ideal for people needing a luxury break but with in striking distance of honolulu shops. Rooms are well appointed with restrained classical decor.

My husband and I stayed here for seven nites in mid-August. The Kahala was recommended to us by a travel agent who specializes in Oahu. Having stayed in Waikiki before, we wanted a quiet experience with the ability to go into Waikiki for some fun and food. The Kahala fits the bill if that is your need. Our room request was honored with a smile, and everything was ready on arrival. The room exceeded our expectations -- mountain view -- and we were amazed at the size of the room and bathroom -- we didn't want to leave the room. Did it need some "sprucing up/touching up"? -- Yes, tiny nicks and scrapes were to be seen, but nothing that detracted from the experience! Housekeeping was exceptional, nothing left unnoticed. And stunningly quiet for a good nite's sleep. Buffet breakfast was above-average, and service was superior, especially on one of their busiest Sundays of the season -- 8/7/11. Always with a smile. Lunch and dinner menu at the Plumeria was pleasing. Beach service was outstanding -- for acquiring chairs and lunch -- we were never disappointed with any service that we received while on the beach. Bell & valet service were stellar, we never waited more than a minute for anything! Fitness area was clean and staff were friendly and willing to help with anything -- top notch from beginning to end of the week. Would we return if we visit Oahu again, yes, but with a caveat -- the hotel was at capacity which meant a busy, busy, busy time to visit. We will return, but in a slower month, with fewer folks --- but overall, go to the Kahala if you want excellent service, a beautiful room, good food and a nice beach outside of downtown Waikiki!

Room Tip: Call the hotel and ask about the different views of the rooms. They were honest with me when I told...
