We booked this for a Saturday morning on our second day in Waikiki. A quick, 20-minute rideshare got us to the pier by 8:00 and we checked in at the office to get our tickets (stickers you wear on your shirt). We were among the first dozen to board the ship and got our pick of the seats, so we sat near the windows. The breakfast buffet was good, and cheaper than most other options in Waikiki: scrambled eggs, sausage links, steamed rice, fresh fruit, delicious soft rolls with butter and jelly, and blueberry muffins. The juice was delicious! My only complaint is that they didn't announce the buffet was open (or if they did, I didn't hear it), but there was enough food and the line wasn't long, so it was fine.
Soon we were underway and within 10 minutes of leaving the harbor, we sighted our first spouts. We saw spinner dolphins on our way out, too, leaping from the water and spinning energetically. We made a beeline for them and waited another 20 - 30 minutes for the humpback whales to surface. We did and watched them spouting and diving for a few minutes before they dived back below the surface. We tooled around with the fantastic sun on our backs, the seabreeze on our faces, and Honolulu and Waikiki stretched out before us. Just as we were worried we wouldn't see any more whales, we saw another pair spout (maybe four or six, or maybe the same couple a few times) before they too dived. At the last minute, one of them launched itself completely out of the water in a full-body breach! It was really magical and a great way to end the cruise.
Of course, Star of Honolulu has no control over the animals and it's all luck of the draw. But they gave clear instructions on how to sight them, how to indicate to everyone else you'd seen them, and made clear announcements to the passengers when whales were sighted. Even had we seen no marine mammals, I think it would have been worth it for the clean and well-maintained boat, the good buffet, and the friendly and energetic crew.
All of the announcements were made in English and Japanese, which was great for the numerous Japanese tourists who were also on the tour. Some of the announcements were pre-recorded but unobtrusive while we waited for the whales to resurface; and when there weren't educational announcements, we had some soft acoustic music. It was a great morning!

The luau was nice with good food, live music, and pretty hula dancers. Liked the 1st come, 1st served order for eating and seating. Very orderly. The Rockahula Show was fabulous! Lots of energy, colorful stage, and, and Elvis and Michael Jackson were spot on! A super fun evening!

We went on this dinner cruise and had a blast! The food was good. Steak was tender and flavorful. The all you can eat crab was terrific! The entertainment was lively and entertaining. We would definitely go back the next time we visit!

Dancing was good and entertaining although the singing needs much improvement. Good enough for a 1 time visit. Michael had awesome moves but singing couldn't be heard. Singing was way off.

Took lunch time whale watching on Star of Honolulu with wife and son. Left on time at midday and saw whales. Much closer to the shore (off Waikiki Beach) than we imagined. Lunch was awesome for $20.00 and partictipation in entertainment ie making a lei and hula dancing was great fun. The ship was huge, very clean and would recommend the lunch time trip to any one.
