“An easy climb and stunning view of Waikiki”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2014

A relatively easy but crowded climb which offers a fantastic view of Waikiki through one of the pill boxes and at the top.

There's limited shade throughout the route so bring a hat, water and sunscreen.

“Not enough parking, get here early!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2014

Our group went to do the hike on our last day in Honolulu and got there at around 9 am, which is too late. The parking lot is small and it was already full by that time. We were turned away and told to find parking at the base of diamond head. Went down to the lookout point hoping for parking here and again, there was no parking. We ended up leaving and not climbing diamond head at all. It was a big disappointment. For such a popular site, this parking lot should be expanded to allow for more tourists to do the climb. We weren't able to go back as we were leaving the next day.

“Hot and not very interesting”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2014

We hiked Diamond Head earlier this week. I have not done this hike in years; my daughters are 12 & 13 and have never done the hike. Afterwards, my daughters understood why we have never taken them on this hike. It's hot. There are lots of people. It looks like an ant farm at one point on the switch backs. The parking area is a joke. Very few spaces. Once at the top, there is little room. The view is nice, but not worth crowds and heat. There are so many lovely hikes that I would miss this one.

“Great hike worth the scenic rewards”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2014

We spent a week on Oahu prior to our cruise and did this hike our first morning. I definitely recommend going early, even before 8am as we had to wait for parking, which is extremely limited at 8:30, but the cost is minimal for a couple hours of enjoyment. The walk varies in terrain from paved sidewalk, to uneven stone/gravel, stairs, tunnels, look outs and military battalion stations long abandoned. The views are spectacular, but the crowds were unending. Wear appropriate footwear, sunscreen as there is little protection, carry water and bring your best camera. The hike is very steep but manageable and well worth the effort! Reward yourself with a shaved ice off the truck in the parking lot after your leisure stroll back down, past many sweating and winded individuals that went too late in the day during the most intense sun...lol

“Worth the trip”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014

Okay as the thorough travel planner I had read a tripadvisor blog from someone who said they walked from their Waikiki hotel to Diamond Head and then to the top and back to hotel. So I thought we would do the same. Haha. Yes when we were told it's not too far by the hotel staff they were also, well.....lying! It is a long, hot, and on very busy streets kind of walk. So when a taxi pulled up after a mile or two from our hotel and offered us a ride, we happily accepted. So glad we did because we still had a long way to go. Anyway, it cost a dollar to hike to the top of DH. There are restrooms at the bottom of the hill and water available to buy. (Don't forget the water.) We hiked without stopping to the top, passing some older, less physically fit folks, and silly young gals who were wearing heels and flip flops. This is physical exercise--not an afternoon shopping so dress appropriately. The views were awesome and made it worth the journey. The run down the hill in a race with my kids was also the best exercise I've had in a long time. My calf muscles were thanking me for the next two days.
