Hiking up Diamond head is of moderate difficulty- you do get a good workout, but if you are not in shape, you can still make the hike, as it is not that difficult. From the top, you have great views of the mountains, Waikiki, and the ocean. Also, you walk through tunnels and switchbacks on the way up, making it a very interesting hike.

I was on a jog out to Kahala and decided to see Diamond Head from the top, so I continued my run as far as I could. You do have to pay a dollar entrance fee, but the views are excellent!

We went early in the morning, and were happy with the hike and views as rewards. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear, and use your camera to take photos of the high heeled sneakers and other things you'll see on other's feet. It was a bit of a joke after awhile.

Love this hike, have done it many times visiting Waikiki and would
highly recommend it. The views are gorgeous, up and down the
coastline. Keep in mind it is strenuous for anyone not used to hiking and there are many steps which are steep. Wear sneakers or
hiking shoes, we saw people in flip flops and sandals which is not the best footwear for this hike. Restrooms are available and be sure to bring water or gatorade which you can buy from a truck parked in the lot before you enter the trail.

I think the title says it all: if you ever go to Honolulu/Waikiki/Oaho, you HAVE to go up to Diamond Head.

First take TheBus line 23 and get out at "Diamond Head". Costs (Feb 2013) $2.5, so not really much, one way (But: ask the driver ... there are 2 similar stations!)

Then you have to go up beside the street for about 10-15 minutes, through a tunnel, and then you're in the crater, where you enter the park. There you have to pay a small fee (can't remember how much, but REALLY small ... like 2 dollars?!) and then the real hike up the craterside starts. It takes you about 30 minutes till you are on the top of Diamond Head, overlooking Honolulu/Waikiki if you walk fast. The trail is kinda nice, you really won't need hiking boots or stuff like that.

The view from the top is UN-BE-LIEV-ABLE. There's really not much more I can say about it ... other than: if you're near, you HAVE to do it! :)
