“Beautiful Beach and Great Scenery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

This is a beautiful place to go and a must see if you have the time to go. All of Hawaii is beautiful and we had a great time but our time and visit to Diamond Head was something I would recommend to all.

“Take your time!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

We took the bus and then began the walk up the hill. I was glad to take my walking sticks that helped on the uneven terrain. It is a steep climb but the view at the top is worth the effort. We got to the top on a beautiful clear day just in time to watch an elderly couple being evacuated by helicopter because of fainting. Be sure to take water and take your time making the climb. Once up at the top, we had to wait for people to move so we could have our turn admiring the view. Some people take longer than others to move out of the way for picture taking. We saw all ages making the climb from young children to elderly.

“really cool”

not much to say, it's stunning. Just be aware the walk up can be hard for those not in shape, overweight()narrow path, sorry but true) or vertigo.

Otherwise great

“Majestic Diamond Head”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

Diamond head is a volacanic crater overlooking the Pacific Ocean. You can walk, hike or run up the stairs to the panoramic view of the entire west side of the ocean. The magnificent colours of the ocean amaze and astound you. Great location to admire Waikiki Beach and the many hotels in Waikiki and Honolulu. As a matter of fact, we were spot our hotel with no problem . You must be fairly fit for the stairs, however may rest at intervals if you must.Truly worth the hour climb.
There a shorter set of stairs that can be used also.
Convenient picnic tables and benches are located on the bottom for a picninc and or rest.
Truly a must attraction, with a superb history with the island of Oahu.

“Long walk up a hot hill”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

This is a must do, it looks worse at the bottom than it really is. If you take thebus (#23) from Wakiki or Ala Moana Centre you will have a bit more of a walk (15 mins) than if you take a hop on/hop off tour bus or a taxi. If taking thebus, you will find your stop is well marked, don't get off at the previous stop, which looks like a trail and could confuse you. There was a truck that sold water ($1.50) at the base when I was there, but I wouldn't count on it being there. There is a modest entrance fee and the toilets here (as in many of the country sites) were out of order and portapotties were available instead. I am able to climb 5 flights of stairs without effort, but I don't like doing it. I took this climb steady and it took about an hour up, and down, with a bit of time for photos at the top. Once you get through the tunnel (which has lights) you can take the right for a very steep set of stairs (almost a ladder) followed by metal spiral stairs and a awkward climb out of the bunker. Alternatively, you can take the easier path on the left that wanders like a switchback up to the top.
