“Nothing to see here”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

The best view of Diamond Head is the classic background silhouette in the travel mags. The crater itself is nothing to see...just a bunch of trailer-like buildings and uninspiring vegetation. However, for four dollars, you too can experience the thrill of parking in the crater.

“Love the smell of sweat in the morning !!!!”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

Great hike up the inside of the crater. Can get pretty busy, so be prepared for all that comes with that. You will definitely work up a sweat (a glow for the ladies - and then some) and a thirst. Take water. Good walking shoes a must unless you like the feel of dirt/dust/ between your feet and your sandals, as the walk starts of on pavement, but becomes a dirt/rock trail with concrete steps (about 180 or so). Lots of photo ops on the way up too, so you can take your time and enjoy.

If you are using the Aloha Bus - be aware that they drop you at the entrance, not at the beginning of the walk. So you get to warm up walking into the crater up a moderate incline @ 750 meter walk. But it is not too bad because by the time you hit the trail you are nice and loose and ready to go !!!

Views are great from the top, but if it is busy can be very cramped at the top. The people come in waves, so you can get lucky. $1 entry per person.

“No one should visit Honolulu without visiting Diamond Head!”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

This attraction is worth every cent of your entry fee to the park! The views are amazing and you'll find them no where else quite like this in Honolulu. It is a long walk though and not completely easy - leave yourself 2 hours+ to enjoy it without being completely worn out! As a gentleman said to me when I pass him going up, "The view is worth every step. Press on."!

“great exercise and view”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

Caught the bus then had to walk 15 minutes UPHILL through the CAR TUNNEL to get there, but I'm glad I hiked to the very top as the view to the city was very clear, and interesting to see the crater shape.
Definately a morning or late afternoon trip due to the humidity - I'm not usually bothered by this but it was quite warm by time came down at lunchtime. I spend almost 2 hours round trip, timed to use the same bus ticket as the way up :)

“Great views, very mediocre hike”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

Go for the views and the pictures, but not for an actual hike. It is a huge tourist attraction so get there early to avoid walking single file to the top with everyone else. You should wear proper shoes as the ascent may be difficult in flip flops, and don't forget sunscreen!

See pictures and read more here, including details for a truly amazing hike nearby (copy and paste into your browser): http://thecarpediemcouple.com/2012/11/19/sunsets-and-scenic-hikes/
