Climbing Diamond Head was on my bucket list. A personal achievement of mine since I made it to the top and found myself more physically fit than I ever imagined. Make sure you take a bottle of water and start this climb early in the day before the sun and heat becomes unbearable. Sneakers are a must since some areas are steep and the trail is uneven and covered with gravel. Particularly challenging were the steep steps (I believe there are 99 of them) and the spiral staircase. If you choose the path off to the left, you can avoid both of these. Tunnels were dimly lit but a flashlight was not really needed. Climb was truly worth it and the views are quite memorable and breath taking.. Definitely a "must do" and a very good way to work off some of those unwanted vacation pounds.
