This was an amazing walk with an amazing view, but plenty of steps, so not really for the very unfit!!

Ever since going inside the Diamond Head Crater as a kid and not being able to climb up the crater, I had been wanting to go, especially after seeing it featured on History Channel. The sign at the beginning of the trail warns you to give yourself about an hour and a half. If you are healthy, it only takes an hour. It was blazing hot, so make sure you put your sun screen on, cover up, and bring water! It's a tough hike, but anyone can do it. Parts of the hike were terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. The reward is the view- truly magnificent! I saw plenty of wild birds along the way. My only complaint would be the trash left behind at such a historical & natural location. I didn't notice any garbage cans up the crater. Instead of the concession stand selling water, they should encourage visitors to bring their own water canisters or sell their own and have free refills. I don't mind strict rules myself, but I do think Diamond Head must be stricter about the trash by not allowing straws, plastic bags, etc. The facilities were clean. Overall, a wonderful experience!

We arrived at Diamond Head just after it opened, and already the main parking lot was full. We decided to wait, and after about 4 minutes, a spot became available, however, if people don't know the rules and don't line up properly, another car that arrived after you can take your spot from you. They need a better system. I myself didn't do the hike, but from the reports of the members in our group that DID the hike, it was strenuous but worth the time. It took them an hour to go up and come down again, and my husband did the "hard" way, which was up what he called the stairs of death. The pics they got at the top were breathtaking, and the visitor's centre is full of little exhibits and a snack bar with a very tasty shaved ice option :)

Be prepared, bring snacks, water and of coarse that image capturing device. The hike is fairly easy. Just make sure when you get to the stairs to heaven, go left and avoid them all together. you'll thank me later.

Make sure to come prepared with you hiking boots, water, a flashlight and sunscreen. It costs $5 to park in the crater. Inside the crater isn't much to see, but the hour hike is worth it for spectacular views.
