“An excellent day out”
Reviewed November 21, 2011

After travelling almost half way round the world to get to Hawaii this is a must to go and experience. You don't need to go on a coach trip to visit this place as there is a local bus from Waikiki that drops you outside the Memorial, which means you are not rushed around the complex. It is free to visit the Memorial. Follow the signs to collect your tickets. You are given a time to be at the start of the visit. At first you sit in a cinema to watch a very interesting documentary on Pearl Harbour and the war. You are then taken to the launch and taken over to the Arizona. There was just about enough time to take in the atmosphere of the memorial before having to get back on to the return launch. There is a book shop and souvenirs to buy, and a cafe. An interesting visit.

“Just a memorial”
Reviewed November 20, 2011

We took a quick boat ride over to the Memorial and it's basically a room build directly over the sunken USS Arizona. The memorial is beautiful and heart breaking when you read the names and think about how horrible it must be to be trapped on a sinking battleship. Looking down at the sunken ship underneath the water is a sobering experience. Make sure you brush up on your history first to get a better appreciation for what you are about to see.

The USS Arizona Memorial Visitor Centre was very interesting and had a lot of great souvenirs to buy. The biggest highlight was actually meeting a survivor of the USS Arizona, getting our photo taken with him and him signing our poster.

“A Must See”
Reviewed November 20, 2011

We were on a tour so we had no problem getting tickets. This is a very moving experience and I witnessed many people tearing up. We were told by our tour guide that tradition is to leave the lei we were greeted with the day before at the memorial to honor the dead and I must admit this was a hard thing to perceive the day after we arrived and received them, but once there it was an honor to leave it. Strict requirements on purses and handbags that should be checked out at their website before going.
