“Fine Dining in a Sleek Cafe”
Reviewed February 19, 2014

If you're just walking along Ala Moana Blvd. in the upscale area of Honolulu and you were to look at the bright orange marquis with "Tango" on it you'd never really think there was a fine dining restaurant behind those full plate glass windows--- but there is and it's fantastic! It doesn't scream fine dining at a glance in terms of stuffy or overdone--just sleek, simple Scandinavian and somewhat casual-looking yet pristine. The name, "Tango" has nothing to do with Argentina or the dance...it's a combination of first and last names familiar to the owners. One glance at the dinner menu has you thinking European at its best with brilliant application of local ingredients with fine touches of French, Italian and Scandinavian cuisine with words like "gravlax", "confit", "caramelized foie gras", "hand cut fettucini" jumping off the page at you. Their wine list is equally impressive with tasty choices from around the globe. Dinner prices are so reasonable it is almost startling. Our dinner choices leaned towards the Italian choices on the menu with a superb risotto, and the langoustine with home made fettucini which were off the charts. You cannot afford to miss this restaurant for dinner...and as I've read, you could have the same enthusiastic response to their breakfast and lunch menus!! Next time we're in town Tango will be at the top of the list for whatever meal is up next!!

“Still love the food, staff and service!”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

I no longer live in Honolulu, but visit frequently and try to get over to Tango as often as possible. Last week, we were able to have dinner and breakfast there and - as usual - food was outstanding. Breakfast: swedish pancakes thin and ymmy with a wonderful fruit compote. Eggs florentine fantastic - the hollandaise was so good. Dinner was great - juicy steak and a lovely seafood "stew". All meals are plated beautifully. Coffee is delicious and the desserts are too good to resisi. I'm so glad that the great rating I gave almost 3 years ago is still correct. A great escape from Waikiki and all of the overpriced hotel meals and mainland chain restaurants. You will not be disappointed!

“Late lunch”
Reviewed January 25, 2014 via mobile

Open till 4pm for lunch and dinner starts from 5pm. This cafe is really convenient when I miss lunch hour around this area and offers good food. Price is not too expensive with fresh ingredients and quality. Will be back for trying for breakfast next.

“Best breakfast during our trip”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

Amazing Scandinavian cuisine combined with great, modern decor (and a touch of Marimekko). Nothing halfhearted about this place. Wonderful service and nice quiet clientele (of which many seemed to be Japanese). We discovered Tango on our second last day on Oahu and decided to skip our last morning's breakfast at the Orhids at Halekulani so we could return to Tango for some Swedish pancakes. Very glad we did. Highly recommended.

“Pleasantly Delicious”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

My husband and I met a friend for dinner at Tango Contemporary Cafe the other night. It was a first experience for all three of us. Our waiter was very pleasant, friendly and attentive throughout the evening. I had the Hamakua Mushroom Risotto dish which was very good, the risotto cooked just to perfection, very tasty. My husband had the Smoked Duck Breast and our friend had the Sauteed Sea Bass which they both claimed were excellent. We enjoyed coffee and dessert after our dinner. Altogether, we had a wonderful meal, nice ambience to the restaurant and excellent service.
