Owner description: Verde Canyon Railroad is a Southwestern adventure that takes passengers on a ride through Arizona’s backcountry, only accessible from the comfort of this train. This legendary “boutique” attraction allows members of groups an uncommon view of a wildly-wonderful red-rock canyon. The four-hour excursion requires no laborious effort or exertion except by the highly-trained staff who absolutely love what they do. As evidenced by exceedingly positive reviews, they do it very well. Verde Canyon Railroad is the only excursion train in the Southwest which offers every guest two seats for the price of one: inside viewing through large panoramic windows in all coaches and 360-degree views from open-air viewing cars attached to each coach. As the train passes “through” a grand canyon, both vantages celebrate incomparable scenery, high-desert flora and fauna, historic trestles, dramatic geology, unusual rock formations and passage through a century-old 680-foot tunnel. Throughout the journey the captivating history of the Verde Canyon and the Railroad unfolds with narration interlaced with a wide genre of popular railroad tunes.

“Great Relaxing Adventure”

The hubby treated us to a first class train adventure.
-We arrived at the train station at noon and it was crowded!
-Checked in and bought boxed lunches and water.
-We were in the Sedona train car with Tracy. She was attentive, professional and friendly.
-During the 4 hour ride she kindly pointed out all the points of interest.
-Sully was our very well informed historian and geologist. The trip would not have been as much fun without him!
-A few things worth noting. As many have mentioned, the first class cars have buffets but the food is not replenished and runs out. You'll want to eat lunch at the station before departure or get the lunch to go and take it on the train.

We'll definitely be back!

“Fun ride--beautiful scenery!!”
Reviewed May 16, 2014

Took my 82 year old father-in-law for a birthday celebration and wasn't disappointed. Make sure to pay for the first-class. Well worth it! Price includes a toast for the training leaving and appetizer type eats. Enough to make the trip really special. The views from the open-air car are breath-taking! My father-in-law loved the leisurely ride and said it was such a special way to celebrate his birthday. Worth the time to get there!

“Fun day on the rails”

We went on the first class rail ride on the Verde Railroad and found it a relaxing day with great views. Brought back childhood memories of riding trains in my youth.

“Relax & take in the view”

Had a great time. We were in the 1st class car that included a champaign toast, bottled water and a buffet. (That ran out very quickly) The staff were helpful, friendly and knowledgable. Great scenery, especially when you went to the outside car. Highly recommend taking the trip.

“Nice staff, beautful scenery.”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

Took this train trip over a weekend getaway to Cottonwood. The VCRR is a fascinating trip through Verde Canyon. Beautiful scenery with sandstone pillars, rivers, mountain views and a bridge 150 feet above the Verde River. Truly a memorable trip. Took this trip in the first class car which had comfortable seats, tables, sofas and an attendant to meet your needs food and drink wise and kept us informed of points of interest. Other points of interest are given on a pre-recording over a speaker system. The food (Complimentary) was basic finger sandwiches, veggies, salad, brownies and wings. All good. Drinks from the bar were extra. I spent most of my time in the open air car which allowed for fabulous photo opportunities.
The first two hours are spent heading up to Perkinsville Ghost Ranch. There they switch the engine car to the other side of the train for the trip back so you're seeing the same scenery from the previous two hours. The benefit to that in my estimation was it was a cloudy day and I had another photo opportunity with clearer skies on the way back. I also noticed that 2.5 to 3 hours into the trip a lot of people were pretty much done as has been mentioned in a few of the other reviews. I'm glad I took this trip but would only do it one time.
