Owner description: Verde Canyon Railroad is a Southwestern adventure that takes passengers on a ride through Arizona’s backcountry, only accessible from the comfort of this train. This legendary “boutique” attraction allows members of groups an uncommon view of a wildly-wonderful red-rock canyon. The four-hour excursion requires no laborious effort or exertion except by the highly-trained staff who absolutely love what they do. As evidenced by exceedingly positive reviews, they do it very well. Verde Canyon Railroad is the only excursion train in the Southwest which offers every guest two seats for the price of one: inside viewing through large panoramic windows in all coaches and 360-degree views from open-air viewing cars attached to each coach. As the train passes “through” a grand canyon, both vantages celebrate incomparable scenery, high-desert flora and fauna, historic trestles, dramatic geology, unusual rock formations and passage through a century-old 680-foot tunnel. Throughout the journey the captivating history of the Verde Canyon and the Railroad unfolds with narration interlaced with a wide genre of popular railroad tunes.

The scenery was really something to see, the staff was fantastic. We upgraded to first class and I'm glad we did. Each first class car seats 35 people and each first class car has it's own open air car that is also covered to keep you out of the sun. In regular class it looked like capacity per car was almost double so the open air car could get pretty crowded. There are things to see on both sides of the train so being able to move freely about was a real bonus and worth the premium over coach class. First class also gets a complimentary buffet (veggies, wings, sandwiches, chips, salad) better seating, champagne, water and a cash bar. On our way back most of the people in our car came in and took a little nap, the seating is much better in first class. I'm glad we upgraded, I'm usually a cheapskate but $20 seemed like a no brainer.

What a surprise. This was well worth the trip from Phoenix. Recommend going first class for the comfort & adult beverages although most of the trip is spent on the open air cars. Staff is very friendly & helpful in the Service & pointing out the sights. Be sure to go on a sunny day to get the most out of the views.

What a relaxing way to travel and see the countryside not to mention the novelty of riding the train. The guides were friendly and informative. We had to pay for first class since that was all available. I would say it wasn't worth the extra dollars since we spent all of our time in the outdoor car anyway. I would suggest getting a reservation in early. We had a day of great weather ( in the 80s) so we didn't experience the "too hot" like others mentioned. The depot has lunch available.

We had a wonderful experience on the railroad. The first class cars provide a little buffet and the comfort of sitting on soft couches as you venture down the valley. The open cars are great for taking photos, and the opportunity to see bald eagles keeps you on the lookout. Just a nice way to spend an afternoon. It is a little pricey, but well worth the money.

This is our second time going on the Chocolate Lovers trip!!!!! This time we brought the parents, uncle, and aunt along we all had a fantastic time. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to get away for the day. I would suggest though that you spend the little extra money and go First Class, it is well worth your money.
