Owner description: Verde Canyon Railroad is a Southwestern adventure that takes passengers on a ride through Arizona’s backcountry, only accessible from the comfort of this train. This legendary “boutique” attraction allows members of groups an uncommon view of a wildly-wonderful red-rock canyon. The four-hour excursion requires no laborious effort or exertion except by the highly-trained staff who absolutely love what they do. As evidenced by exceedingly positive reviews, they do it very well. Verde Canyon Railroad is the only excursion train in the Southwest which offers every guest two seats for the price of one: inside viewing through large panoramic windows in all coaches and 360-degree views from open-air viewing cars attached to each coach. As the train passes “through” a grand canyon, both vantages celebrate incomparable scenery, high-desert flora and fauna, historic trestles, dramatic geology, unusual rock formations and passage through a century-old 680-foot tunnel. Throughout the journey the captivating history of the Verde Canyon and the Railroad unfolds with narration interlaced with a wide genre of popular railroad tunes.

This is a sedate scenic tour through pretty spectacular canyon scenery. We rode in first class car and (with same experience as others have pointed out) we believe it was worth the additional expense. Our tour guide, Ralph, was attentive, funny and willing to entertain with stories throughout the trip. It's true that the two-hour ride back is a bit of a let-down (as you've passed the same area heading out) but it allows time to catch what you may have missed and to really relax into the experience.

Definitely one of the high-points of our trip to northern Arizona.

Don't miss this! And if you can, travel first-class. What a wonderful afternoon. Almost four and a half hours in the Verde Canyon - can only imagine what it must have been like way back when. But today, the adventure is great. Food and drinks on the the train. Comfortable seating. Very friendly staff. We really enjoyed this.

The train ride through the canyon is spectacular! We saw three bald eagles, a golden eagle , and a dozen javelina while on our journey. Going first class is definitely the right choice since you are served champagne and snacks as you board. You can also purchase drinks including a delicious cucumber margaritas. The seats are so comfortable and the open viewing cars are terrific for taking photographs. The host and hostesses are great. This is one of the best tours in the Sedona area!

We rode in one of the first class cars and had a wonderful experience. Our tickets were free because we sat through a timeshare presentation the morning before, but we still think the $80 price for first class is well worth it.
Our attendant was extremely friendly and made our ride even more enjoyable. We had our 8 month old daughter with us which i am sure worried our fellow passengers, but we knew she wouldn't be fussy . I wouldn't recommend taking an infant unless they are typically calm. The last thing i would want to do is make everyone have to deal with a crying baby while stuck on a train.
The scenery is beautiful and the staff was quick to point out great photo opportunities. Drinks are reasonably priced; we bought a bottle of wine for the 2nd half of the ride which they re-corked for us before we departed. Very relaxing and a great way to spend the afternoon!
