Owner description: Verde Canyon Railroad is a Southwestern adventure that takes passengers on a ride through Arizona’s backcountry, only accessible from the comfort of this train. This legendary “boutique” attraction allows members of groups an uncommon view of a wildly-wonderful red-rock canyon. The four-hour excursion requires no laborious effort or exertion except by the highly-trained staff who absolutely love what they do. As evidenced by exceedingly positive reviews, they do it very well. Verde Canyon Railroad is the only excursion train in the Southwest which offers every guest two seats for the price of one: inside viewing through large panoramic windows in all coaches and 360-degree views from open-air viewing cars attached to each coach. As the train passes “through” a grand canyon, both vantages celebrate incomparable scenery, high-desert flora and fauna, historic trestles, dramatic geology, unusual rock formations and passage through a century-old 680-foot tunnel. Throughout the journey the captivating history of the Verde Canyon and the Railroad unfolds with narration interlaced with a wide genre of popular railroad tunes.

“Great way to spend an afternoon”

Booked a First Class Car with friends and enjoyed the amenities. The car was comfortable yet elegant in appearance. We were presented with a nice selection of appetizers, cookies, as well as bottled water. If traveling with friends, indicate that at booking, so you are sure to be together, as there were 9 First Class cars and 2 coach cars all with assigned seating. It was a great way to be a tourist!

Take the last train to Clarkdale. A lazy day to ride the train through the Verde Canyon. You can bring your train whistle like I did to add to the ride. Before we board you can have lunch @ the station.Did not see wildlife on this ride. There is ice cream on the ride. Have fun !

“Fun train ride through beautiful country!”

Taking a train ride during our Southwest trip was high of the list of things to do. We decided to take the Verde Valley trip and were not disappointed. You ride through the lush Verde Valley and see sights you would not otherwise see. The staff was informative though the narration was hard to hear over the train at times. I would recommend earplugs if you have sensitive ears. It is pretty loud when the train brakes along the way. We road in first class but spent much of the time in the open-air car.

“A great way to spend an afternoon”

We have been to Sedona many times but were always hesitant to take what amounts to an entire day away from hiking and the other wonderful Sedona activities in order to take the Verde Valley Railroad trip. After taking this trip last week, or conclusion is that it was a mistake to wait so long! It was truly a relaxing, entertaining, and informative journey. We were in the first class car and found the food and beverages to be excellent. We were blessed with pleasant Fall weather so spent most of the time outside in the open car, although the first class cars were very roomy and comfortable. We didn't see the coach-class cars so we can't speak on behalf of that experience. My opinion is that since you are going to spend four hours on the train, spring for first class. Like others have commented, we found the staff to be friendly and accommodating and very well informed. We are planning to return to Sedona next year with a large family group and are looking forward to taking everyone on this trip.

“Nice Trip, Beautiful Scenery, Great Staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012

We waited till fall for colors. Now we will do it again in the spring, summer anytime. Nice easy trip thru the Verde Canyon you can only see on this train. Many visible cliff dwellings seen from a classic locomotive. The staff did a great job making history come to life with their tales of the Verde Valleys past. Saw a pair of Bald Eagles.
