Owner description: Verde Canyon Railroad is a Southwestern adventure that takes passengers on a ride through Arizona’s backcountry, only accessible from the comfort of this train. This legendary “boutique” attraction allows members of groups an uncommon view of a wildly-wonderful red-rock canyon. The four-hour excursion requires no laborious effort or exertion except by the highly-trained staff who absolutely love what they do. As evidenced by exceedingly positive reviews, they do it very well. Verde Canyon Railroad is the only excursion train in the Southwest which offers every guest two seats for the price of one: inside viewing through large panoramic windows in all coaches and 360-degree views from open-air viewing cars attached to each coach. As the train passes “through” a grand canyon, both vantages celebrate incomparable scenery, high-desert flora and fauna, historic trestles, dramatic geology, unusual rock formations and passage through a century-old 680-foot tunnel. Throughout the journey the captivating history of the Verde Canyon and the Railroad unfolds with narration interlaced with a wide genre of popular railroad tunes.
Useful Information: Food available for purchase, Wheelchair access, Bathroom facilities

A few people recommended this train ride to us. It's not really anything too special, unless you haven't been exposed to the red rock area by car or hiking. It's a 4 hour ride.

If you do take this train, please do not waste your money on 'first-class'. We did first-class which included appetizers - if you call a platter of veggie sticks, a few chicken wings and some potato chips first-class food, then you'll be satisfied. They announced they'll be handing out ice cream sandwiches half-way during the trip but they charged $1 each. The recorded narration was very hard to hear unless you were sitting right under the speaker, which we weren't, so we missed 80% of the narration.

The scenery is lovely but no wildlife was seen at all, which we heard later was typical because the wildlife are not out during the daytime.

So I'm not sure why people recommend this train ride. I'm sorry to say that I wouldn't.

If you want to enjoy a laid-back afternoon of scenic beauty, this is the trip for you! Be sure to make a reservation well in advance, and if you can, pay a little extra for a First Class car ... it's well worth it. Nice accommodations, friendly staff, tasty food (included) and a full bar. The Verde Valley is so scenic, and they tell you when you're coming up on a good photo-op so that you can walk out onto an open-air car and click away. This is not a fast train -- it takes a very leisurely jaunt through a very pretty part of the state. We had a wonderful time! You will, too!

Senior Consultants, my financial advisors, offered this trip as a client thank you. It was First class all the way. And this is the way to take the ride. The first class coach offers sofa seats, large windows, a food and beverage bar, bathroom, all the comforts you'd need.

Great views of the red rock area from the bottom of the Verde Canyon. We went first class and loved the living room setting. The ride is four hours - two up and two back approx 20 miles each way. What you can't see from the inside of the rail car you can see from the outside observation cars. Great trip for young and old.

Beautiful scenery, great food, friendly co travelers, and a informative hostess. We had a great time on this luxury train ride. I learned so much about the area. Carrie, our guide, was very friendly and had a good knowledge of the place.
