You expect a miner's cabin to be small but not to be as tastefully decorated & equipped as this. Tom was the perfect host & gave us many good suggestions. We made full use of the BBQ & patio area & Trudy kindly gave us small marrows to cook. It was a perfect place to retreat to after a long & hot day sightseeing. If you want to go on the train you need to pre book.We didn't & were disappointed.

My wife and I are regular travelers to the Jerome area with this being our first stay in Clarkdale, and we were very pleased with our decision to stay at the Blue Heron for our Valentine's Day getaway. We were met by our host Tom upon arrival, and he was very warm and friendly. The surrounding grounds were very clean with no clutter. We were very impressed with the cleanliness of the cozy, rustic cottage. We were on the go for most of our weekend, and our only regret is that we did not make time to enjoy the outside amenities.

We were planning a romantic getaway to Sedona (we got engaged!) but ended up staying at this little cottage instead. It's the perfect location if you are planning on doing wine tasting in Page Springs and Cottonwood and taking the Verde Canyon Railroad or heading up to Jerome. Tom was exceptionally nice and helpful during the reservation process and even made our train reservations. The cottage is a little hard to find but using a Garmin helped. First, all the good things:
The guesthouse is full of historic charm, inside and out. It was exceptionally clean as well. There were muffins and fresh fruit waiting for us. The cottage itself is pretty tiny but comfortable. There is a beautiful antique armoire as well as a sink with a small fridge and coffeemaker. The real appeal for us was the courtyard, it's spacious and comfortable with a fountain and brick fireplace. The first two nights Tom made us a fire and had it waiting when we arrived in the evening...lovely to sit by the fire, sip wine and look at the stars. The courtyard is attached to their personal house, closer proximity than I was hoping but they did shut their shades at night so it wasn't terribly invasive to privacy. .........Now, there are just a few downsides to the place and some helpful hints: *He does not come in and clean your room while you are gone (not that I minded that, it was just unexpected) so if there are dirty dishes or something you need to tell him in the evening. There are notes you can put on the door to request towels or linens - we did but still had to ask in the evening. * There is a TV/DVD player in the room. It is SMALL. It is situated so you cannot watch it from the bed, only from the futon and unless you have eagle eyes it's just not conducive to watching a movie. Bring a laptop if you want to watch movies * The antique armoire is very shallow - it only holds baby hangers making it pretty difficult to hang your clothes in there and there are not many hooks or a luggage rack or places to put your things. We ended up just keeping them in our suitcase and sliding them under the futon. *There were fresh fruit and muffins waiting when we arrived but those were the only ones we received. I'm not sure if we missed something or were supposed to request it? * On the last night they were not home. We had gotten engaged that day and really wanted to enjoy the romantic fire in the evening but didn't have matches to start it and couldn't find them anywhere. We ended up driving all the way back into Cottonwood to get matches. This isn't really a bad thing about the place, just an inconvenience we encountered * The bed is somewhat comfortable but very small. We had a difficult time sleeping because we are used to a king bed. * The neighbors are pretty close. We heard people moving their garbage cans out, and lots of conversations. ......Even with the minor inconveniences we encountered, this cottage is as charming as can be and if none of those things bother you I highly recommend giving this place a try. Unfortunately upon our departure we had a very uncomfortable experience. We were getting ready to leave and carrying our suitcases out when the owner came over. Assuming he was just coming to thank us for our stay I was quite surprised when he pointed out how the screen on the screen door had separated in one spot and it wasn't like that before we moved in and could we explain how that had happened. Neither one of us had even noticed it or have any recollection of doing that but we both felt immediately accused and uncomfortable. We are not careless people and take great care in the places we stay so if we had noticed that happening we would have said something. I am pretty darn sure we didn't do it but even if it was an accident or someone else did it we both felt guilty and uncomfortable. The interaction didn't last long and he left by saying "Well, I guess I'll have to take care of it". (Was he expecting us to pay for it? Not sure why this was brought up) and then switched back to a pleasant goodbye. Quite unfortunately this was our last impression of the place and we left the cottage with a feeling we had been scolded and/or accused and drove away with a very strange vibe. He seems like a very nice and accommodating gentleman in all the other interactions so it made the encounter all the more strange. This isn't a reflection on the property, just our experience. I simply brought it up because I don't think this is the lasting impression you want to make on your guests. All in all, it's a charming, clean and adorable cottage and regardless of our experience I recommend you stay at the Blue Heron Guest House.

Room Tip: The place is a bit tough to find, especially if you arrive at night. If using a GPS, You should avoi...

We spent 3 nights at this wonderful B & B. It is pristine with wonderful amenities. We enjoyed the covered front porch as well as the very nice back patio. The owner, Tom made reservations for us on the Verde Valley Railroad which we highly recommend. It is very close to the B & B. Wonderful. It is also very close to some very nice restaurants in old Cottonwood and all the attractions in Jerome. Don't miss the Clemenceau Museum and Tuzigoot national park. The history of this area is very interesting.

I have had the privilege of staying at the Blue Heron a few times in the last few years. It is adorable! The room is comfortable and clean. I love waking up and enjoying the beautiful Clarkdale weather on the porch.

Tom and Truly (the owners) are accommodating and so helpful. This is the place to stay if you are visiting the Verde Canyon Railroad, Sedona, Jerome, Tuzigoot, or just for the nice getaway.

I would highly recommend the Blue Heron Guest House to anyone spending time in this area.

We had the best surprise getaway for my wife at Blue Heron! The owner (Tom) was so accommodating to arrange flowers and gifts in the room before we arrived at the property. He even contacted the train company to have more surprises on the train! My wife was so happy and everything was simply perfect.

The room was incredibly clean and comfy, and the courtyard was cute! Wish we had more time there and relax on the rocking chair or by the fireplace. The breakfast was delicious with fresh muffin and fruits. Highly recommended!

We were in town to try out the Verde Canyon Railroad and needed a quiet place to stay nearby. The Blue Heron Guest House met our needs perfectly. We were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and helpful. He took us to the guest house, which is a cute little cabin located on the property. He provided us with a couple of delicious muffins and fresh fruit for breakfast.

The room was small, but very clean and comfortable and just what we needed. The room contained a mini-fridge, a microwave, TV with basic cable, bed and futon (and two rocking chairs on the front porch). The Blue Heron is only a few minute's drive from Historic downtown Clarkdale, the train depot for the Verde Canyon Railroad and the Tuzigoot National Monument.

I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to visit the railroad, Tuzigoot NM or the Clarkdale, Cottonwood, Jerome area.
