Native ruins that you can explore. The rangers are quite informative. We were glad we stopped. It was a very educational experience.

Tuzigoot is a 1000 year old hill town situated on a high limestone ridge overlooking the Verde River valley. Visit these ruins on a weekday early in the morning and you can almost hear the voices of the great civilization - who we now call the Sinagua - as they tended to their fields of cotton a millennium ago. Fascinating museum/visitors center staffed by extremely knowledgeable and helpful rangers and docents.

If you like old Indian ruins, this monument is for you. You can walk up and into the ruin at the top of a small hill. There is a small inside room and access to the roof. The visitors center has interesting exhibits and the rangers are available to answer any questions. It is worth the drive if you are vacationing around Jerome or Sedona.

Those of us who are old world old timers will find this a far cry from the Hollywood movie cliches about Native Americans. This small town sitting on a knoll overlooking their agricultural lands has a exceptional aura. A small but excellently managed visitor centre lies at the entrance to the site.

This ruin sits out by itself, and you can spend time climbing around in it. A bit of a drive, but go if you can.
