Hotel looks forbidding as you drive up to it. The tangle of cars at the entrance reflects the essential busyness of the place. When we were there, a large wedding party were celebrating and conference-goers huddled in groups around the reception. The trail to our room along endless corridors and squeaky floors was compensated by the peace and comfort it offered.
The receptionists always seemed to be swamped. The breakfast room was full to the seams, so we decided to eat down the road at one of the many breakfast bars.
Most of Newport is within walking-distance of the hotel, so our stay there was not only convenient but also healthy.

We thank you for your review. We are a busy hotel throughout the year, and it sounds like you stayed with us during a busier period. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the peace and comfort that the Viking offers.

As several precious reviews have mentioned- I was here for a conference. The check in was smooth given the size of our group.

The hotel has a historic feel and is a bit quirky which is a big positive for me. It's a good walk down a corridor to get to the rooms. The location is great- walking distance from several local attractions.

I got a room on the 1st floor and the room itself was very comfortable- clean, large, well appointed. However, I could hear the floorboards creak when the person upstairs walked around which was a bit annoying.

Great stay overall.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor, the rooms on the 1st floor have a view of the parking lot

We have many conferences here at the Hotel Viking as you know. Our hotel is the first one in Newport built to accommodate the overflow of guests that the mansions could not. Our location is fantastic, and close to many of Newport’s many attractions. Thank you for your review, and please come stay with us again!

I visited in March for a company off-site.

The location is fantastic - there's plenty of shops and restaurants within walking distance. I had a view of the harbor from my room.

The hotel is a little bit quirky - different wings were very obviously added on at different times, and the floors don't always match up. I had to take an elevator and then walk down stairs to get to my room on the second floor. Also, some people swore the place was haunted.

The front desk service was very good. They were able to accommodate some special requests.

The food was good but they weren't always able to accommodate my food allergies. If you have special dietary restrictions, I would call in advance of your visit.

The room was a good size, but chilly. I was never really able to get the thermostat situated, and the bathroom sink had pathetic water pressure. The shower was fine though.

Thank you very much for your review. We appreciate you taking the time to write about us, and your travel experience. We are centrally located in Newport. You are absolutely right, our location is fantastic. The Hotel Viking is the first hotel built in Newport in 1926. In the 70’s there was a new section added to the historic building. When you reserve a guestroom with us, we have two options to offer, the Newport wing and Viking wing. They both have been recently renovated. In these two sections, we do have a variety of guestrooms and suites available with different sizes and bed types.
Our front desk staff are all unique, very skillful and wonderful associates who care for each and every guest. They are all trained as concierge, and they are all thrilled to give dinner suggestions, directions and answer all questions as necessary. And yes, they do try to accommodate all special requests the best they can.
We apologize for any issues that you’ve experienced during your stay. We appreciate very much you’re your feedback as we always try to correct and address any issues that arise.
We hope to see you soon again at the Hotel Viking.

We had an executive offsite at The Hotel Viking and stayed for 2 nights - we were provided with top notch service. For 3 days, our meeting room set up was exactly how we asked and was well presented. The catered food was delicious and tasted homemade. Our rooms were well decorated, clean and had all the amenities we needed. My group was very impressed and very satisfied. The staff was courteous and receptive and had a pleasant disposition even after all of our 'small' favors (which added up over 3 days). We will certainly be back!!

Got to stay at the Viking for a work conference in the winter and it was excellent. The rooms were a little small, but had everything you need and the bed was definitely comfortable. The hotel is situated well, a 5 minute walk from the water and right next door to the tennis museum. I would love to go back to this town in the summer and I would definitely stay here again if I do.

Only complaint was the hotel restaurant/bar. The service was a little slow and the menu left something to be desired, but still a quality hotel.

Thank you for your comments. Winter can be a wonderful time to stay with us. Our location in the center of Newport is within convenient distance to most attractions. Summer is the best time to stay with us, and we look forward for your return.
