“Good Value, GREAT Location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2010

Not a 4-star hotel, but well maintained. Amenities in the room were not top quality, but the room was clean. Concrete floors so I didn't hear any noise from above. However, when the neighbor turned on their shower it sounded like a 747 was taking off in my room. Not much soundproofing on the room door (could see light from the hallway around the entire thing when it was closed). Luckily there weren't many noisy people passing by. The front desk has a prominent sign stating they have a "no tolerance" policy for people who are noisy or disrupt others.

Oddly enough, the noisiest people were the housekeeping staff. I'm not sure why you need to be talking to each other at all, but it would be nice if you would do it in a low voice instead of talking across the hallway. People staying in a hotel sometimes sleep late and/or take a nap to be rested for the nights festivities!

The location of this hotel is hard to beat.

Overall, I was very happy with the stay and would recommend it to my friends./

We stayed for one night in February and the location was excellent, only a short walk to shopping & restaurant's. Our room was on the second floor and had a great view of Bowen's Wharf. Because it was off season we got a good rate of $125/ night and the was no charge for parking. The room & hotel were average, and drinks at the bar were seriously overpriced, but the location more than made up for any negatives.

I found the Newport Harbor Hotel a fantastic place to stay whilst in Newport. It's location in relation to nearby restaurants and bars was perfect. We were within walking distance of the local shops also. The room was clean and comfortable and the buffet breakfast supplied was really enjoyable in the mornings. It is great to be able to walk directly outside your hotel and go for a stroll along the harbor. We would definitely stay in this hotel when in Newport again.

Stayed here for 2 nights for a wedding in Newport. The hotel rooms are nice and very clean. Our price was pretty good for off-season ($115/nt) but that may be b/c it was part of a wedding block. Our view wasn't good - our room was on the second floor and overlooked a roof and was a bit noisy. You can't beat the location - right on the water and walking distance to all the shops, restaurants and bars on Thames St. It's closer to town then the Marriot, and much closer than the Hyatt on Goat Island. Had breakfast at its restaurant Pier 49 - servers seemed very flustered, service was slow and food was only OK. I'd recommend walking to another breakfast place or driving to this great spot we found - Corner Cafe on Broadway. If you're going with friends or business, Newport Harbor Hotel is a great option. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, I'd recommend one of the many nice B&Bs in town.

My husband and I stayed here 4 nights in November 2009. We stayed on the 4th floor in a room with a balcony which overlooked the marina. We paid $109 per night (I called the front desk for a better deal than they were advertising). We did not pay the daily parking fee ($15?), it being off season, but I could see why this hotel could be expensive in-season. ROOM PROS: free bottled water, comfortable beds, great view, EXCELLENT location (visitor's center is 2 blocks away and many restaurants and shops within walking distance), friendly front desk staff, real Kleenex in the bathroom instead of scratchy generic brand, no problems with bill, quiet room even though there was a wedding party staying there, and relatively clean although I had to ask that the tub be scrubbed out (and still wasn't that clean). ROOM CONS: somewhat small room, old TV had a blown speaker so hard to watch a program, heater made all kinds of noise when on and then made dripping noises for a while, and pedestal sink in the bathroom (little room for toiletries). We ate at the hotel restaurant once for dinner (we were the only ones in there!) -- the food was pretty good but it wasn't cheap (specialty drinks = $9). It was not our ideal plan to visit Newport in November - just worked out that way - and it was pretty chilly walking around (45 degrees F and windy!) Pros outweighed cons for me at this hotel and I would stay here again - just not sure if I'd pay top dollar during the height of the season.

We went to Rhode Island with no hotel reservations. I called and was quoted a very nice rate so we decided to stay at the hotel. The staff was nice and very helpful. We enjoyed the music in the lounge in the evening after we walked the cliff walk and went to the breakers which is a must when visiting Newport. We were very happy with our choice of hotel.
