We found that this bed-and-breakfast provides a spacious clean room with character. Though Pilgrim House Inn enjoys a fairly central location, the inn does not have its own parking so we had to find street parking nearby. Staying on the only ground floor room, we found Spring Street very noisy the night that we stayed and suggest staying on the upper floors.

In the morning, the continental breakfast was above average, particularly as we could sit out on the bright and sunny rooftop with a partial view of Newport. We also enjoyed the koi fish pond at the back of the Inn. The innkeepers were cordial but seemed a bit tired/harried. Overall, a pleasant, convenient place to stay for visitors to Newport seeking an alternative to the chain hotels.

The Pilgrim House Inn B&B has got to be the best kept secret in Newport. The home (and it does feel like home) is extremely comfortable, not flashy. Very inviting, not formal. The inn keepers were a pleasure to get to know and they did everything in their power to make our stay pleasant.. The breakfasts were great (save lots of room for the blueberry coffee cake the inn keeper makes herself). The prices were actually more reasonable than this site leads you to believe. You will love the roof top deck overlooking the harbor as well as the ground level garden and koi pool. You are between the harbor shops/historical district and the Bellevue/Cliffwalk/mansions/museums area and can walk to either. Newport is a walking town! We stayed the first few nights at the Hyatt on Goat Island. Glitz and glamour. Cold and unfriendly. We enjoyed the Pilgrim House Inn much more than the Hyatt. I just can't give enough positive feedback.

Pilrim House is ideally situated for walking around Newport. There's a parking space by the side of it where you can unload and take time to register. The municipal parking is a minute or so away and costs $5 using the pass given to you by the hotel. This is added to your bill. Quite a lot of stairs if you are on the third floor and there didn't seem anyone available to assist. Breakfast is eaten on the third floor with cafe style tables and chairs or there's a deck/terrace available with views over the rooftops and towards the sea. A pleasant, basic breaksfast with coffee/tea, fruit juice, fruit, bagels and cake available. The rooms are not the largest we've stayed in but are very comfortably furnished and clean. Sherry is available in the afternoon in the lounge. I didn't understand the rabbit theme, so it looks a bit twee with ceramic, china, fluffy rabbits everywhere. We were in one of the front rooms and found the road outside a bit noisy but you're almost next to a church so the hourly bells are a given!

Our (my daughter and I) stay here was an impromtu visit which turned out very well. We had been staying at Martha's Vineyard but had an extra night to spend on the mainland before flying home the next day. We arrived in Newport right after the Visitor Information place was closed so we didn't have any information about places to stay in Newport (which is where we had decided to stay that last night). We just happend upon the Pilgrim House Inn with it vacancy sign out so we decided to check it out. The room rate was a bit higher than we had planned but the location, clean rooms and friendly staff persuaded us to stay. We couldn't have been happier with our decision. The room we had (#1) was very comfortable and although it was right off the lobby and the street, we didn't have any problems with noise. The evening was foggy but we sat on the rooftop deck, had a cold beer and thoroughly enjoyed the coolness and peace of the place. Breakfast was well presented (buffet style) with a wide variety of breads/rolls, fruit, yogurt, cereals, juices, etc. and once again we really enjoyed sitting on the deck -- the fog had cleared some and we could see the harbor and watch the sail boats. Our only regret was that we didn't have more time to spend here.

All I can say is the inkeepers couldn´t be bothered if you never return.
Long story short: when you check in, they make you sign a piece of paper agreeing to be fined with $ 600 if you happen to loose a parking pass they give you upon arrival. Nobody verbally warns you of the importance of such pass, not even when you leave. They wait for you to go, and if they´re lucky enough that you forget to return it, obviously unaware of the penalty, they will gladly fine you with this outrageous amount. Makes no sense, unless this constitutes an important source of income. Because I´m sure people who have stayed there once never come back, and strongly recommend their friends not to go, not even by mistake.

Shhhh! Be very very quiet! I'm hunting for b&b's with the most wabbits! Aside from my childhood fear of rabbits damponing the trip, Pilgrim really has a lot to offer in Newport. For one, location, it's an easy stroll anywhere so park your car and forget it. It's very CLEAN, and very COZY. If you're looking for the B&B feel you'll get it. Some rooms might be a little too cozy for some being adjacent to other shared rooms like the lobby and shared living room, but we never had one problem with noise or neighbors or solitude. And with this location, what are you doing inside anyway. The rooftop should be fully taken advantage of. The panoramic view of the water and downtown newport is very relaxing and sets a good mood for the start of the day or a boost of night energy before you go out. Not to mention the free chocolate and sherry adding some boost. Newport in July was peak season and a very interesting crowd. You get the mix of Upper class Family in polos walking with their toddlers, to side stepping ready-to-pass-out college sophmores with house shares looking for the next bar. Still, Newport is a town with character and bunnies. lots of bunnies. Get ready for fun.

My husband and I spend three nights here during the July 4 weekend, 2006, for our anniversary, and were very pleasantly surprised. The attention to detail alone in the house and the upkeep was so impressive that I would definitely go back there. It really was beautiful. We had a very comfortable double bed with a private bathroom, very plush towels, good room service, average continental breakfast served daily on the third floor served either indoors or outdoors on their patio overlooking the bay........very nice. Also, they give out bottled water for FREE which in itself is pretty unusual, and they have this great cooler on the second floor where you can refill the bottles. The place is VERY clean and within easy walking distance to all the shops and restaurants.

One thing, there are no televisions in any rooms. There is a big screen T.V. in the living room, and nobody ever seems to use it, so that should be enough anyway. The bed and breakfast is also on the "ghost tour". Supposedly, according to the tour, there is a 7 year old girl, Jessica, who lives in the house and comes out once in awhile. Some of the staff have said they have seen her, but I looked all over and she didn't come out for me!! My husband and I took the tour though, and it did stop in front of our bed and breakfast and told the story of Jessica!! It was fun!! The innkeepers seemed helpful enough, although I hardly saw them at all. They told us about a great beach, Gooseneck I think it was, and we went and it was really nice except for the seaweed.

They give you a parking pass for a lot on the next block and you pay five dollars a day for parking, which isn't bad. One word of advice, ask for a room that is NOT near the street if possible. The street is very noisy at night and it doesn't quiet down until very late. All in all, we had a great time and will definitely stay there again.
