Very nice, very touristy, but something different to do.

The food was BBQ - and not that great. There was nothing really special about the meal at all. The entertainment was tacky. The views were just ok - the sunset was nice. Service was good. And then there was this guy who took pictures to sell to you . . . there are just too many great restaurants in Newport to waste an evening here.

I traveled aboard The Newport DInner Train with two friends. From the moment we sat down in the beautifully restored dining car, we were completely relaxed. Our server greeted us quickly with a ready smile. We all tried the Cosmo by the Sea, one of the signature martinis. The drink came in an oversized martini glass and was perfect. As we sipped our cosmos, the train jolted forward and we were on our way to tour the waterfront of Aquidneck Island. Getting out of the city was not so wonderful, but once we reached the Navy base, the scenery was gorgeous. One of my friends and I both had the chicken vanderbilt which was delicious. Our other friend had the baby back ribs...no knife needed! She could only eat half the rack so we all got to try a bite....delicious! We spoke to the maitre'd who told us the bbq sauce is a family recipe made in house. We were fortunate to enjoy a tie dyed sunset sky as we indulged in our cheesecake. A great evening with great friends! And...although we weren't in date mode, a very romantic atmosphere!

Kind of fun. The food is good, but you're paying for the train ride. We took our granddaughter, and she loved it.
