Historic Hill Inn
Ranked #35 of 95 Newport B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 13, 2012

We went to Newport on the spur of the moment on a Friday afternoon of the weekend of the Jazz festival and where afraid we wouldn't find a nice place withing easy strolling distance (we have a 14mo old) of historic area/wharfs that we could afford. The visitor's center highly recommended the Historic Hill Inn, so drove over--only a five minute drive. Richard, the owner, greeted us warmly and showed us our room, a large second floor room with a king bed and lots of light. It was super clean with great comfy chairs and nice decorations. Richard offered to help us bring up our luggage, took a spare bed out of the room, and moved assorted antiques out of baby's reach. Then he gave us a whole bunch of great suggestions for restaurants and where the natural food store was and about the Cliff Walk, beaches and mansions--very helpful. It's great to have parking and be so close to Thames st., Spring st., the waterfront. The breakfast was very good for a small B&B. Donna and Richard were some of the most friendly and helpful inn-keepers I've encountered, and that made our stay all the better. Last, but not least, it was a great price--for any location in Newport.

This is a real gem in Newport. Rooms were very clean. Free on-site parking is a big bonus. Just a short walk to the waterfront, shops and restaurants. Hosts are very friendly and knowledgeable of the area and had many great suggestions.

My partner and I from England stayed for three nights in July 2012. We have stayed in many B&Bs and definitely recommend this one. Excellent location, free parking, lovely house, very helpful and informative hosts and a delightful dog. What more can you ask?

My husband and I stayed here for one night and wished we could have stayed longer. Donna is terrific. She is very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and more than willing to help us with anything we needed. The inn is within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to do, and within a short drive from everything else. The whole place is gorgeous, matches its name perfectly - quaint, historic and ornate. Very comfortable and clean. We stayed in the two bedroom suite (with one bedroom blocked off as there were only two of us) and felt like we were living like royalty! Two bathrooms, a really neat shower, A/C and fans, our own kitchenette and dining area, comfy bed and beautiful decor. (Two couches that were so comfy after a long day of walking!) So much to look at and explore, lots of brochures and maps and info about Newport. We love dogs so we were immediately in love with their (friendly and quiet) beagle, Brownie. Neighborhood is very safe, we didn't even feel like we needed to lock our doors (there's a door to the outside from the suite), and it was so nice to have off-street parking. Breakfast was yummy. I could go on and on... We had a blast. Thanks, Donna, we will be back for sure!

Room was quaint Victorian with great comfy bed. Love the location. Owners were friendly and informative. We will definitely return. This was our first B&B in Newport. We usually stay at one of the hotels.
