We thoroughly enjoyed our three-day stay here. This Hotel is every bit the thrill and quality that it's name professes. Loved everything, from the fabulous sheets, to the fantastic breakfast in the solarium, to the stunning harbor views from our room and the thrilling rooftop deck at night. It doesn't get any more romantic that this!

Dining and roaming along the waterfront are both relaxing and exciting treats, even for those of us already used to the ocean smells. This is a special place, not to be missed at some point in everyone's life....at least those of us who love history, harbors, fish, and quality hotel & dining adventures.

The Grace Vanderbilt is in a stately, classic building that has an interesting history. It was built by a Vanderbilt for his mistress, became a YMCA, and now is an elegant boutique hotel. It is centrally located in downtown Newport, within walking distance of the harbor, the International Tennis Hall of Fame, a wonderful Starbucks, and countless restaurants and shopping venues. The entrance is somewhat inconvenient in that there are steps up to the lobby level, which is difficult with luggage, especially if one arrives by cab or Uber. The staff, however, makes up for it by being very accommodating and helpful. The place is charming, with nice artwork and decorations, and with uneven floors in the hallways. There are indoor and outdoor pools and a rooftop lounge/bar from which there's a beautiful view of Newport harbor, especially during sunset. The price during the summer season is high, perhaps too high, but there is much value if price is no object.

A lot of hotels in town are exciting. However...if you want things a bit more quiet and be catered to.... or as they say these days a bespoke experience....this hotel is for you. To be honest, it needs a facelift, BUT if you can deal with a well worn product, the intimacy, service and personnel are at the top of the food chain. Roof Deck is amazing! Green House is amazing! Garden is amazing! Tell them you read my review and you will get flowers in your room! So now you just have to GO! DJ

We were lucky enough to know about the High Tea offered at the Grace Vanderbilt Hotel. However, we were not aware that there was a 24-hour hour notice requirement. Not to be deterred, we instead made Lunch reservations. Imagine our surprise when they called back and said that the Chef had said that by all means, if we still wanted High Tea, s/he would be happy to provide it! Needless to say, that created a very positive impression and we were certainly not disappointed. The entrance to the hotel is gracious and lovely; we were greeted warmly and shown to the airy Atrium to be seated. Our server, Cathy Anne had a wonderful soft Irish accent and was extremely attentive and helpful. There is a large selection of teas which are brewed on order. High Tea also comes with a Mimosa, a Bellini or a glass of sparkling wine. The 3-tiered serving dish was a picture. The savory level included cucumber and cream cheese tea sandwiches, smoked salmon and cream tea sandwiches and a tiny pastry cup with crab mousse (and perhaps avocado?) with finely minced chives on top. The middle layer was a riot of sweets: tiny chocolate chip cookies, little rectangles of pastry/chocolate and toasted almonds, blueberry cream cups and tender and light cranberry scones. The top layer had bowls of clotted cream and strawberry jam along with a dark chocolate truffle and chocolate-dipped strawberries with white chocolate drizzle for each of us. One of the staff members, Edward, gave us a delightful, funny and detailed history of the Vanderbilt House including family scandals and the eventual restoration of the building to the lovely hotel that it is now. We explored a bit and the grounds, outdoor pool, indoor pool and spa all looked wonderful. We will definitely return on our next visit. Thank you for such a special afternoon with special friends!
