Hands down the best location in Newport to stop for a Drink and Appetizer. The food is very good. The Bar can be a busy place depending on the time of year. There is a large patio as well as lawn seating all overlooking the Bay. It can feel a little pricey but it should be on your list of places to visit. You can also take a small hike to the lighthouse for some additional pictures.

We were three couples. Two couples celebrating their 35th wedding anniversaries. We were given a lovely table. The service was attentive yet not intrusive. Each of our meal selections was prepared perfectly. Our wine was wonderful ( their selection extensive). Dessert offerings not especially exciting so most us chose their delicious homemade ice-cream . Definitely would dine there again.

Note: There is no TripAvisor Account for the Lawn, which is actually separate from the Dining Room. The Lawn does not take reservations. It is first come, first serve. On busy nights, you may wait an hour... or two. But that's ok. Take it in. This is the good life.
We came for a family dinner our last evening in Newport. We arrived at 7 PM and put our name down. At 8:30 we were seated (last seating). The wait didn't bother us (we planned for it, leaving the kids at home for the first hour)... but I could see it not being good for younger children.
The soups were wonderful - two lobster and corn chowders (broth), and two clam chowders (thicker). We asked for a taste before deciding and they obliged, with no question and very generous tastes. Both delicious. Our server told us the same man has been making the clam chowder for 30+ years.
The main courses were very good, but not excellent. Lobster Roll ($24), Fluke and Lobster Tail (1/2 lobster tail) ($28). The $28 dish was $32 on the bill. The price went up but it was not yet reflected in the menu. They fixed it when I called their attention to it. At this price, I would call it average. At a lower price, it would be very good.
Regardless, what you're paying for here is the experience.... the food is good, but not great. You get what I am saying.....

Be sure to make a reservation for an outside table under an umbrella, overlooking Newport Bay. Grace was our waitress and let us take our time as we relaxed with a bottle of wine and lunch salads. A very lovely location just off Ocean Drive, we spent the afternoon watching sailboats go by.

We started out having a pre- dinner drink on the beautiful lawn overlooking the water with the sun setting and gorgeous sailboats to look at. The dining room was elegant and the service exceptional. This is a special occasion restaurant, expensive but delightful.
