“An Old Time Ice Cream Shoppe”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2013

Lovely stop for a vintage ice cream experience. All the classic ice cream shoppe elements that many of us remember as kids, here in crisp white, clean and stainless steel. Of course, the ice cream is the feature, but each time I visit I get a classic vanilla cone. The ice cream is old fashioned in texture and flavor, but icy not creamy which I prefer. Maybe a sundae would be more satisfying to modern saturated tastes, like Cold Stone seems to be after.

“Fabulous Ice Cream!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2012

Discovered the Newport Creamery during a recent visit to the Newport Mansions. Ice cream was beyond delicious. Our family had a sundae, ice cream soda and the creamery's Awful Awful - a milk shake/Fribble type beverage. All three were fabulous! We were there late - but the creamery also serves casual food too...we visited for dessert only. Highly recommend!

“Oldie but goodie”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2012

This "Friendly type" restaurant is a Rhode Island staple, well known among the locals as the place for ice cream and "awful-awfuls" (a thick, rich ice cream milkshake.) Also known for its special relish recipe.

The food is reasonably priced, with the standard burgers, salads, sandwiches and small dinners menu. There is also a senior menu with the standards, like burgers, BLTs, grilled cheese. The ice cream is excellent but beware the richness of the awful-awful. There is a light version on the menu.

The Newport site was recently renovated. This particular site is the original Newport Creamery.

“Still good after all these years”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2012

This is a local chain that has been in Newport and vicinity for decades. It used to advertise itself as "At the Sign of the Golden Cow." It no longer does so. Its restaurants are legendary for cleanliness; staff renowned for the quality of service. The Creamery's ice cream and fountain offerings are the best we've enjoyed anywhere. On our recent visit, we found that none of this has changed. This location, like others on Rt. 138, for example, are a good alternative to the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds and impossible parking challenges found on lower Thames Street, seemingly no matter the season. This location, in a block-square strip mall, has easy parking, a relaxed location, and is convenient to the Touro Synagogue National Historical Site.

“Good Ice Cream & Service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2012 via mobile

This was a great looking place walking in. I took my family out for some ice cream after a full day of adventure out. The sundaes were good and the Strawberry/Oreo milkshake was delicious!! The atmosphere and service was very good.

I would highly recommend you to stop here.
