Beautiful and loved property. Can't fault a thing. Cindy was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The attention to detail was faultless. Yummy French toast for breakkie. Thank you very very much. I highly recommend this property

Room Tip: The downstairs suite is a winner

Personality, warmth, and good humor is what you will find in the friendly inn keeper Cindy at the Bayberry Inn in Newport R.I.

Waking up to the wonderful aromas of her hot breakfasts after a peaceful and oh so comfortable nights sleep is the icing on the cake!

Cindy's home baked cookies at tea time just hit the spot after a day walking, shopping, or just exploring, and if it's a late night or midnight snack you want, she makes sure there are plenty of them! A wonderful selection of herbal and caffeinated teas are also there tp enjoy.

My daughter and I have been enjoying the charming Bayberry Inn for 8 years now! We look forward to many more.

We had booked it last minute and didn't know what to expect other than the good reviews and photos we saw on this website. When we first arrived, Ken greeted us and showed us around. He went to get our key and advised us that we were staying in Apartment B on the third floor. My wife and I looked at each other with a puzzled look. He walked us upstairs to the third floor which most of us call an attic. It was a finished attic with multiple rooms, two bedrooms- one room with two twin beds and the other room with a king size bed, a kitchen, and a dining area. Nothing like the pictures we had seen prior to our visit. It would be great for a family with two children but I know many don't see an Inn as a place to bring children. We have been to many inns and the apartment did not give us the charming and comfort feeling we were accustomed to or as the rest of the house. But we made the most of it as we were only there for one night. The next day we went downstairs and were greeted by Cindy. She was a breath of fresh air. She was so friendly and made every effort to make us feel at home. She had cooked Overnight Baked French Toast topped with your preference of blueberries or strawberries or both. Amazing! It was so delicious that we took home the recipe. The dining area had a full spread of homemade breads, coffee, tea, juice, etc. We truly enjoyed it. If it wasn't for the apartment feel, we would have given it 5 stars. We would love to come back to one of their rooms on the first or second floor!

I have nothing but good things to say about the Bayberry Inn! We were in town for the Boat Show and stayed for two nights. I had reserved the Gold Room based on pictures and description on the inn's website. I had given an ETA of 5pm when reserving the room. Check in is until 6pm. I got a phone call from Cindy, the innkeeper, during the afternoon, asking if I still anticipated arriving before 6pm. She was worried because she had a death in the family, and needed to attend services that evening, but wanted to make sure someone was there to welcome us. She couldn't have been nicer on the phone, and I thought how considerate of her to worry about us with everything she had going on. She stated that if she wasn't there when we arrived, that we would be welcomed by a gentleman named Ken, and that she would see us at breakfast.

We did encounter quite a bit of traffic getting into Newport, and we finally arrived about 5:45. I was impressed with location of the inn and its outward appearance. Kay Street is a lovely residential street with wide sidewalks and beautifully maintained Victorian homes. It's just behind the Hotel Viking and within walking distance of the waterfront, with little traffic. Very quiet. The inn is a lovely, rambling white Victorian with a gorgeous wrap around verandah.

Ken did indeed greet us at the door. He was pleasant and showed us around the common areas, explained about breakfast and showed us to our room, which looked exactly as it had on the website. Everything was clean and comfortable, so we were pleased. It was only after Ken had left, saying he would see us at breakfast, that I noticed while investigating the air conditioner that the elaborate window treatment on that window had become damaged/detached, and could not be closed to block the light. This was a definite problem as these windows are huge, floor-to-ceiling affairs and the sunlight would be streaming directly onto the bed.

My six foot plus boyfriend tried climbing on a chair to reattach the treatment, but he couldn't reach it. I think the ceilings are 13'. I went to look for Ken, but couldn't find him. It was at this point about 7pm. I hesitated to call Cindy's cell # because I knew she was at a wake. So I called the inn's # and left a voicemail asking for someone to please reattach the curtain while we were out for the evening.

Almost immediately, Ken was at our door with offers of assistance. He looked at the window, agreed that it was a problem, and asked us if we'd like to look at a different room. Now mind you, all I was expecting was for someone to climb up a ladder and reattach the curtain. That would have been fine. Instead, since we hadn't unpacked and thought, why not, Ken showed us the Red Room. I had seen this room on the website and it is gorgeous! It is also considerably more expensive than the room we had booked. Ken said he would rather we be comfortable and stay in room without any issues, so we moved into the Red Room, much to our delight. This room had an amazingly comfortable king size bed, fireplace, large flatscreen TV, absolutely huge bathroom with a two person jaccuzzi in a beautiful windowed alcove.

We met Cindy at breakfast the next morning. She is just the sweetest, most hospitable lady imaginable. She apologized for the curtains, wanted to make sure we had enjoyed the Red Room and had slept comfortably. She then served us a wonderful breakfast. Later that day when we returned from the Boat Show, we peeked into our original room (door was wide open) and saw that not only had the curtains been reattached, but the fabric covered shades which hadn't worked properly had been replaced with brand new blinds. Very nice and very prompt. We then went on to the Red Room, only to find that the same thing had been done there! I am simply amazed at the level of service at this inn.

This inn has so much going for it: location, lovely house and decor, fantastic breakfasts and cookies, sparkling clean rooms/bathrooms and comfy beds. But the shining star here is Cindy. She is the reason we will return again and again. She clearly loves her job, and every innkeeper could take a lesson in hospitality from her. Right down to the warm hugs we received on departure, Cindy is a gem.

My only warning to other travelers would be that the inn apparently welcomes young children. The couple in the room directly across from us a had a young toddler with them who was very talkative both late at night and early in the morning. I certainly wasn't going to complain as our room had already been upgraded and we liked it so much. We needed to run the AC anyway which helped to ameliorate any noise.

Was surprised to find vacancy at the last minute in early August. Arrived to a friendly innkeeper who went out of her way to accommodate all my family's needs. A 10 minute walk from downtown Newport, which is usually perfect after a bowl of chowder and a lobster. And the pedi can will take you home if you don't feel like the exercise for whatever gratuity you want to offer. Look forward to returning.

We stayed here the last week of July in 2013. There was a scheduling mix-up between booking.com and the Bayberry, so the innkeeper at Bayberry (Cindy) booked us at a much older, less well-kept place nearby. The innkeepers there were nice, though. This was a drawback -- a big one -- but get this, Bayberry paid for the room at their expense. We essentially had a night in Newport for free. They made up for the mishap and in my opinion, this is an extremely honorable way to do business, and has made the Bayberry our Newport choice for future visits. Cindy's does her absolute best to make your stay pleasant and her daughter Ashley, who's the assistant innkeeper, is equally as helpful. The Bayberry is a quick walk to where the action is, but it's very quiet, which is a great balance. The breakfast was delicious -- it's a full breakfast, too.

Even though booking.com has a pretty great service, there is obviously some confusion between them and the Bayberry which until ironed out could be a bit of a hassle -- to travelers and the Bayberry. In the future, I'll probably book with the Bayberry directly, just to avoid scheduling mishaps. Just an FYI there.
