The Bayberry Inn was an attactive B&B. We spent two nights in the Honeymoom Room which was lovely and spacious. Wendy, the manager was friendly and helpful. Good location, quiet but not to far to walk into the hustle and bustle. We would reccommend The Bayberry Inn to family and friends.

My mother and I spent four nights at the Bayberry, which I chose because of the location, amenities, attractiveness of the house and rooms. Comparing to other b&bs in Newport, the price for the room was excellent (since rooms are not cheap if you want some quality). It was located on a residential street, away from the hustle, but close to things when needed and near Bellevue Ave., which took you to the mansions area very quickly by car. We stayed in the Anna Hunter suite on the first floor, which I did not realize had 2 bedrooms in addition to the comfy and large sitting area with three large leather chairs, big screen TV and gas fireplace. So it would be an ideal room for a family (1 king in main area plus queen in separate bedroom). Bathroom was spacious with a large and deep jacuzzi tub plus a shower with plenty of towels. However, the bathing facilities would be very difficult for guests with mobility issues as the tub was high and deep and the shower had two steps up to it. We heard no traffic or people noises overnight to disturb our sleep, though you could hear movement above and up the stairs during the day and evening. We, unfortunately, had a wet and chilly week in early June, and the air conditioners had just been put in and the heat turned off. The chilly air crept around the conditioners and made the rooms drafty. Luckily, the gas fireplace was still on and Wendy told us to use it. It worked very well to heat the large sitting and bed area. Breakfast was excellent and I have found that you often don't have a choice at b&bs with a cooked meal. The homemade baked goods (including fresh bread) and yogurt parfaits were a great start and the meal each day was excellent when Wendy made it--broccoli and cheese quiche, french toast with fresh berries and cream cheese, gourmet scrambled eggs with herbs. Ham, bacon and sausage each came with one of the meals, but you could adjust the meal as needed and when another guest did not want the offered meal at all, plain eggs any way could be ordered instead or one could forego both. In the late afternoon, hot tea and baked goods such as brownies were available in the sitting room with the large piano and plush humongous leather sofas. There was the veranda with ample seating, though we did not get to take advantage of this since it rained and was chilly most of our time there. Also, parking was generous, but you had to watch out for Shelley, the very friendly cat who was outdoors sometimes and liked to lie in the lot and greet visitors. Wendy, the manager was very helpful during the booking process as well as while we were there. She was just the right amount of friendly, without being obtrusive, and very informative. The walk to shops was not long, unless you don't like walking a bit and the Hotel Viking was close for a good restaurant. Also, along Bellevue Ave. nearby, there was a great little chocolate shop that had teas and European drinking chocolates, sweet and savory crepes and other light meals, as well as a small selection of their own chocolates. A wine and beer store and a gourmet shop were in the same row, as well as a salon. Touro Synagogue, the Historicial Society, the Redwood Library and the Art Museum were also not too far to walk to. The place is for sale, so hopefully whoever buys it will keep things going the same. Would very much recommend it!

Booked a room online for what turned out to be $70 higher than their highest posted price. When we arrived we were showed such a room but told it was not available. Instead we were given a room on the first floor and checked in for a lessor amount signing the check in forms for that amount. The next day upon check out I was told I could not get a copy of what I signed ( by woman claiming to be the manager). Are you kidding me ? Who does business like that ? She told me to take it up with the people I booked through. So I guess she is looking for premium fees for a sub standard room and wanted to make sure I had no proof of the switch.
Other issues the drunks screaming at the top of their lungs at 2:30 in the morning. Anyone booking should also know at the time of my visit the place was for sale and may explain her attitude. Really a shame the place has such potential but cancerous management

Very sorry to see this review posted and take issue with the perceptions of the guest. The specific room reserved was provided as booked online through the third-party agent. The Innkeeper went above and beyond providing breakfast service to the Bayberry Suite at the request of the guest whom conveyed the highest compliments during their stay. It is beyond our control that our contract affiliation with the third-party booking agent prevents us from sharing payment receipt information. This agency keeps a fee of 30% and pays the Inn less.... if we share this information with the guest we would violate our contract. Additionally, we do not have the guest's credit card information in this case and he was directed to contact the third-party for a receipt (which is common practice in the industry).
It is always better to book directly with the Inn for the best experience!

We spent 2 nights in the Newport Room. Upon arrival, we were thrilled to see the place was as nice as the online pictures. The location is ideal - close enough to walk everywhere. The Innkeeper was very hospitable, and the breakfast was wonderful! We will recommend the Bayberry Inn to friends and family.

The Inn is beautiful both outside and inside. We stayed two nights in the Red Room (#204). The Red Room is located on the 2nd floor at the front of the house. It's nicely decorated and very spacious with a sitting area and a king size bed. It also has a gas fireplace. The bathroom is very large with a jacuzzi tub next to beautiful windows with built in wood shutters. A nice place to relax. The Inn has a large, welcoming front porch with outdoor furniture and a porch swing. We enjoyed sitting outside. Breakfast is served 9-10 and is set out as a continental style with choice of cereal, oatmeal, muffins, yogurt, fruit, juice, water, coffee. Along with these items there is one set meal for the morning. So you don't get to choose your breakfast, which is different than other bed and breakfasts I've stayed at, but with all the continental options you will find something you like. The location of the Inn is on a quiet street, but its a bit of a walk to get to the restaurants and shops but worth it esp with the nice weather we had. However, its very close to the Hotel Viking which has a spa inside only just steps away. I didn't get to go to this spa, Spa Terre, because it was booked, but I did go to The Spa at Marriott which was great. Overall, my husband and I enjoyed our stay at The Bayberry Inn and would recommend staying here.

Room Tip: Stay in the Red Room

My boyfriend and I spent three nights at the Bayberry Inn over Memorial Day weekend, and couldn't have been happier with our accommodations. We stayed in the Anna Hunter Suite, which was lovely and spacious. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and spacious with a shower and Jacuzzi. The breakfasts were delicious, and each afternoon Wendy, the innkeeper, put out sweet treats and cold drinks. (we loved the ice tea and pink lemonade). We also took advantage of the wraparound porch to relax after a day out, and liked the fact that the Bayberry is located away from the hustle and bustle of the center of town, but still close enough that all of the major attractions are in walking distance. We've stayed in Newport before but liked the Bayberry Inn the best of all the places we've stayed. We highly recommend the Bayberry and would definitely stay there again the next time we go to Newport.

We chose this inn because of its central location. We never used the car, and felt like locals by the end of our short stay, because we had walked all over the neighborhood. The Bayberry Suite was exactly what we were expecting, because the inn's website has lots of good pictures for you to see what you are reserving. The feel is similar to staying in a friend's vacation house, not a luxury hotel, so as long as your expectations are in line with that, you will enjoy your stay. While the decor didn't seem professionally done, the bathrooms were nicely updated. The inn and surrounding neighborhood were quiet, and the staff was friendly but not in your face.

The only major con was finding out there is a cat in the house! They don't allow pets, so it would be reasonable to assume they don't have their own! If you have a cat it might not be noticeable, but there was a distinct "cat" smell in the common areas (not the rooms). Ultimately we would go back again!

Room Tip: Check the website for details and images.
