Light crowd at 6pm on a Sunday evening. We started with warm sourdough rolls w/soft butter. The swordfish special in a béarnaise sauce was excellent. My husband said the Prime Rib special was just average. Service couldn’t be better. Atmosphere was very nice – in an old casino with quite a history, which is told on the menu. The pecan Carmel Cheesecake was excellent. I would definitely return.

Sixty of us descended on Canfield House for a dinner that had been preplanned and reserved well in advance. We had but a limited menu from which to choose and arrived with the greatest anticipation after all we had heard about the restaurant. Sadly our thoughts were dashed by too few servers and an overly long wait for bland tasteless steak and chicken salad. We are not sure however whether the chicken pot pie should have been the dish of choice.
For a location as beautiful as Canfield House, the meal was a great disappointment.

My husband and I ate here last weekend and were very disappointed. The place is charming - a former, turn-of-the-century casino, and from the reviews we had read we expected a fine dining experience. Unfortunately the decor was the best part.
When we arrived it was immediately apparant that they were understaffed for the evening (and it was Saturday night!). We were early so we waited in the bar room. The hostess ended up taking our drinks order because the one bartender was totally overwhelmed. Still, we waited for about 10 minutes for our drinks.
When we got to our table, our server was very friendly. However, after taking our orders we didn't see her again for quite some time. We finished our drinks and our water and no one came to offer us anything else until our appetizers arrived. Even then, it took forever to get new drinks.
Every time something was delivered to our table, the server practically threw it at us. She was running from table to table and obviously having trouble keeping up. I felt like I was at a diner!! Again, the hostess stepped in at one point and delivered our food which arrived luke warm, as did our coffee later on. The food itself, besides being luke warm, was just average.
I have to say I had high expectations for Canfield House and was really disappointed in the experience. Needless to say, I would not recommend going here. Shame...

The restaurant was very crowded and appeared noisy, but we sat on the porch and it was delightful. They had live music that we could hear even though we were outside. The food was so good. I loved the short ribs. The waiter was very helpful, friendly and efficient. On several nights a week, they have a special price that includes a bottle of wine. It's a major bargain. But their regular prices are not bad at all. All in all, a most enjoyable experience.

Saw this place on trip advisor and took a gamble. Glad we did. Unusual setting inside an old casino with plenty of atmosphere.
Good menu and wine list. Food and service excellent. Pleasant and attentive waitress. There was a good live band playing at the time we were there, but they didn't stop you from being able to hear your fellow diners.
All in all a great evening.
