“Tranquil and Relaxing!!!”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

We just returned from spending 3 nights at The Attwater and it couldn't have been better! We were looking forward to a quiet, relaxing vacation and The Attwater delivered everything promised in previous reviews.
We live in a very quiet neighborhood and find it difficult to sleep while on vacation because there is always some sort of noise. We were so pleased that although this property was centrally located, it was peacefully quiet and the bedding was quite comfy. The décor was impressive and the housekeeping staff deserve to be applauded because the property is spotless and the daily service was spectacular.....sometimes those behind the scenes get forgotten.
Brad, the manager, was always available to assist guests, was extremely pleasant and helped us plan our days. One evening he suggested a beautiful area to watch the sunset. He loaned us his chairs, we took a bottle of wine and some cheese and crackers and had a lovely, romantic evening.
The property is perfectly located. We did not move the car for days because we were able to walk everywhere. Within walking distance to the waterfront, the mansions, cliff walk, shops, restaurants, grocery and wine stores.
We will definitely return to The Attwater if ever back in Newport.
Valerie and Brian

Room Tip: Third flood suite was very quiet.

Contemporary decor with feng shui design. Large rooms with Apple TV on every flatscreen. Very nice for catching up on TV episodes from your iPad at night (although the wireless didn't a always work well). Walking distance to mansions, Thames street. Parking was awkward (street parking with no large lot) but available. Loaner iPad provided upon checking which was great.
Websites were organized for dining, site seeing, etc Breakfast was included with many tasty options. Greek yogurt, delicious scones (the ham, cheese, and rosemary were my favorite) watermelon, quiche, homemade granola bars, etc. Fridge in room was nice and they didn't charge you $5 for a bottle of water to make your coffee like most places which is appreciated. The front door is locked at night so you need a key to get in after 9ish and there is no front desk but a phone number is provided to call in case of emergency. Also no elevator so pack lite.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and took advantage of our Apple TV. It means a lot that you found our unconventional decor appealing and that you loved our breakfast cafe. We apologize if our parking lot was too full or it was unclear that you could park in the art museum's parking lot. We also do have front desk service past 9 pm, but may have been in the back baking! Please come back to The Attwater the next time you visit Newport.

Just returned from a 2 day stay at the Attwater. It met and exceeded our expectations. The hotel was immaculate and the decor was modern and attractive. The room was equipped with all the technology you need. Brad, the manager, was very pleasant and accommodating and assisted us with information about the area. The breakfast was perfect. Kudos to the baker - delicious muffins, scones, and the best home made granola my husband ever had. The Inn is situated in a good location and we walked and saw everything. I highly recommend this hotel.

We chose the Attwater because of it's fun and funky decor and it's great location. It turned out to be even better than anticipated. It really does look like the photos. It is immaculately clean. We appreciated the small refrigerator in our room that, blessedly, did not make a bit of noise and kept our wine and water chilled. It would be hard to find a better location with parking (although some is on the street, but no problem), a reasonable price, and where you can easily walk to all the shops and restaurants. Yet the inn sits on a back street so no noise problems from outside whatsoever. Breakfast in the little cafe does not include any hot dishes, but the yummy pinapple muffins, the (warm) ham and cheese scones, cinnamon and raisin scones, watermellon balls, juice and coffee were amazingly good and plenty for us. Evenings included the most delicious, homemade chocolate chip cookies. One of the nicest little inns we've ever visited anywhere and the most unique decor you'll ever see for sure!

Room Tip: We chose a smaller queen-bed room but had plenty of space. King rooms and 2-room suites are availabl...

The stylish modern first floor lounge sets the tone as do the welcoming house managers. The rooms are on second and third floor (no lift) and are well appointed: comfortable bed, a/c that works, small frig, coffee maker & spring water, flat screen TV, smart decor. Room 25 is quite compact but has two windows and natural light galore as well as very adequate lights in all areas. If we were going to quibble, we would say that the closet area is tiny - but that may be a feature of just that room. But the large second floor outside deck beckoned and did we mention the adjacent off-street parking and delicious breakfast in the cafe area? There was WIFI in public spaces and probably also in rooms. It is one (quiet) block off Bellevue, next to the Art Museum and close to the Tennis Hall of Fame. Thanks Brad and Meg, we will be back! This was our first stay in a Lark property - will definitely seek them out elsewhere in NE.

What a lovely review. We are so pleased that your first experience at a Lark Hotel was such a pleasant one. Meg and Brad do such a nice job with service at The Attwater, and you've done a great job describing all of our amenities! We look forward to welcoming you back to Newport or at our other properties in Nantucket, Kennebunkport and Portland, ME.
