I stayed here with my 4-year old daughter when we were in Newport to attend the Folk Festival in June. Apologies for the belated review, but we had such a wonderful stay, that I felt it deserved our accolades, even if it's a bit delayed. Although, I appreciate the charm of a traditional B&B, I was thrilled to find this more modern option in the historical town (it doesn't get much more modern than iPads in each room!).
I was a little apprehensive about staying in a bed & breakfast with a young child, as I know some B&Bs frown upon it (which I understand) and even have a minimum age limit. However, the owners made us feel quite welcome and offered recommendations for child-friendly restaurants as well as ensured my picky daughter was happy with the delicious breakfast in the morning (offering an assortment of pastries, yogurts and cereals, since she wasn't interested in the fresh egg dish).
The king bedroom was quite spacious for the two of us and although the bathroom was rather small, there seemed to be enough dresser and desk space in the bedroom to put any make-up and supplies that didn't fit on the pedestal sink. My daughter and I both loved the modern flair of the decor throughout the B&B (she especially got a kick out of the modern furnishings in the lounge downstairs) and the king bed was soft and quite comfortable...like sleeping on a cloud. :)
The location was perfect for us as well. Once we parked the car easily at the B&B, we didn't use it for the rest of our stay. The Attwater is within walking distance to the downtown shopping, restaurants and piers (10-15 min with a 4 yr-old...less for an average adult!) and we easily walked to the ferry each day, which took us to the concert venue (Ft. Adams State Park). Yet, despite the proximity to downtown Newport, the Attwater was on a quiet street and we slept soundly and uninterrupted each night. One evening, when we were forced to walk back from the pier in a downpour, we arrived drenched at the Attwater. Not wanting to venture back out in the rain, we looked to the owners for suggestions. They placed an order for us at a local pizzeria, which they then delivered to our room (again, most appreciated, when traveling with a youngster).
This was a wonderful and welcoming B&B and will be the first place I check for availability next time I come to Newport.
