Dropped in for lunch, Maryland style crab cakes and moules frites. The broth the mussels were cooked in was sublime. We can honestly say best we’ve ever had, beating France and Belgium, no mean feat.

This place has the best raw oysters I've ever had. There are 4 different options on the raw bar menu. At $3 per oyster the 2 dozen set us back $72 plus tax and tip so rather spendy, but these are far better than the ones we had at Benjamin's. The raw oysters are the same price at the Moorings where they have 6 options. The midtown Oyster bar is a large place covering 3 floors so even during the boat show when the town is swarmed, this place is able to absorb a lot of patrons. We were able to get seated on a Friday without a reservation. Service was excellent. One word of warning, this place has a lot of hard wooden surfaces so when folks are "overserved" alcohol the din can get rather uncomfortable. I had the grilled scallops for a main entree. It was cooked properly but was completely bland. The raw oysters and the taragon vinegar they serve them with are outstanding, best we've had, but the cooked dishes both this year and last year when we attended were uninspiring.

Great place - best lobster roll in town - sit on 2nd floor window for a great view. Great wait staff!

Drove by Newport on way back to Providence. Nice seaside town with many boats in marina. There was an annual Boat Show event. Wales into Midtown Oyster Bar to have a light dinner. Ordered clam chowder and lobster sushi. Very busy and popular bar. Must try when in Newport

Great selection of seafood, shellfish and non shell as well as brews. Loved dining later and on the roof off the bar. Big space in and out.
