Bad news first - service was terribly slow. We were sitting for nearly 15 minutes before anyone even came to our table to greet us. We had arrived in Newport only one hour earlier, and needless to say we were pretty hungry after a four hour drive. Our server was very apologetic, and we understood because he was very busy. However, we were traveling with a baby and were conscious of time, so the 15 minute wait was disappointing. We also waited between courses and were not visited at all by the server between courses. That said...

Food was excellent and worth the wait. My wife had the Rocky Pt. Clam Chowder and the Lobster Seafood Salad for lunch, and I had the Haddock Clam Chowder and Blackened Mahi Mahi. This was by far the best lunch we had during our entire stay. The Mahi Mahi was cooked excellent, and I highly recommend it to everyone. Also, the Chocolate Mousse was phenomenal. Note that we were in Newport during Restaurant Week, so these particular choices may not be available at all times. However, I can tell from the variety that my wife and I enjoyed that this place uses fresh food and prepares it excellent. Can't wait to go back!

Management of this rebuilt venue (June 2013,) paid very close attention to every detail. The decor, ambience, and layout are ideal: three floors of beautifully appointed space and outdoor seating (with heat lamps) are a welcome addition to Thames Street. The 3rd floor outdoor seating has spectacular sunset views, but get there early to beat the crowd.

The menu selection is good, with a solid variety of seafood and land faire. The chargrilled octopus, smoked fish, and Maryland lump crab cake appetizers were very well prepared, but servings were small for the price. The caramelized scallops entree was excellent, as was the Atlantic Cod. The lobster mac & cheese was rich & creamy, but better suited as an appetizer than an entree. The NY sirloin was surprisingly good for a seafood-themed restaurant.

The bars on each of the three floors offer a solid bottled beer selection, with the usual offerings on tap. Mixed drinks are very well prepared, with the highly competent bartenders ensuring generous pours.

Service is polite, professional, and efficient. Reservations are highly recommended, as the place fills up quickly, with even the bars crowded 2-deep by 5:15 on a Thursday. Street parking if you can find it, otherwise the $10 lot on the wharf behind the restaurant.

Went for lunch at the start of restaurant week and had a nice meal with some tasty beers. The place is huge and is very well decorated. The wood and beams are awesome. It has a raw bar area, and three floors and an outside deck (did I mention it was huge?) The only downside, and it seemed to be a theme in Newport, why are the bathrooms always so far away (3rd floor, we were on the second). Would definitely come back next time I visit.
