Came for dinner and sat on the back patio as the sun set and we were enveloped in fog. Had delicious cocktails and Rhode Island oysters, floating amongst the yachts to the sound of fog horns in the distance. Clam chowder and scallop chowder were transporting to ...well, right here in New England!! The perfect atmosphere for a perfect start to dinner. For dinner we were treated to the largest scallops I've ever seen which were perfectly prepared: also to a delicious lobster roll on a croissant with large chunks of fresh lobster. All of this paired with friendly, attentive but not intrusive staff made for a great Newport summer dinner experience.

We visited this restaurant yesterday. It is located on the water and it is beautiful. My wife got the seafood pasta, my daughter ordered tuna, my son ordered a whole lobster and I ordered the lobster stuffed with shrimp and scallops. My order was definitely pricey but It was very good. I am not the type of person that likes tons of butter. If this sounds like you, I would suggest asking for less butter when placing the order. Don't get me wrong, everything was delicious, I know I am nitpicking. If I had to do it all again I would have asked for less Ritz cracker topping in my lobster and my wife would have asked for easy butter with her seafood pasta. If you are looking for a nice seafood dinner, this is the place to visit.

We read the rankings and figured we'd try it. We didn't have a rese and decided to wait for a table with a view. We got lucky and got to sit quickly. We sat right up against the rail on the dock which was great but all the seats felt like you were on top of the boating action. The did not rely on the ranking but rather sought to prove it. Good food and great service.

We had been here years ago and thought of it as a typical tourist waterfront restaurant. But in reality, the food was really good and so was the service, including at the crowded bar. A gorgeous spot on the harbor and on a beautiful night, eating outside is what summer is all about.

Did some research before visiting Newport and decided I was going to eat at The Mooring. If I could I would give this place 5 stars for customer service. Everyone we encountered including our waitress, Sarah, was amazing and helpful. I had my eyes set on the lobster crossiant (which looked AMAZING from the pictures). Unfortunately it was a miss for me. I wish the croissant was a little softer. For appetizers we had the bag of doughnuts (recommended) and the chicken dumplings. Overall the staff made the experience great. The food was good but I was hoping for a little moor.
