Great food, service and the location right in the center of town. You can't miss this one especially at sunset.

The food there is awesome. Fresh, clean, tasty. We had good oysters, steam lobster, grill salmon with beet salad, some sandwich and fries. They all were delicious! We were very happy for what we got. The service was wonderful. The view is nice. We went there for lunch for both Sat and Sun! We will definitely go back there when we visit Newport again.
Terrific location with valuable parking lot! A bit noisy, but fine for a fun lunch or dinner experience on the harbor. Wonderful porch for nice summer evenings enjoying raw bar and drinks. Great service. A little pricey, but hey, it's Newport. Food is certainly up to standards with wide variety to choose from.
This was our second time to this restaurant. We drove up from Boston and brought family from Chicago to Newport to show them the beauty of this New England seaside town and the mansions. We choose the Mooring for an early dinner (5:30) on Sunday of Memorial day because we remembered it had great food and a beautiful deck overlooking the harbor. Same holds true today.
Unfortunately for us, there was a table near us that had 4 twenty-somethings that continued to yell and curse. It was just plain rude. We watched as servers commented to themselves about how rude they were and did nothing. We watched as the table next to us who had two kids under the age of 8 get more and more uncomfortable. Finally we alerted our waitress that maybe they should talk to them. Our waitress informed them that the whole restaurant could hear them and that some people had complained. Of course that tables response was to get louder and more obnoxious. At that point, the manager should have asked them to leave. They did nothing. We continued to watch as servers commented to themselves about it and tables around us got more and more uncomfortable. They did nothing. I thought the table next to us was just going to walk out with their kids after their order came out wrong and the problem table kept cursing (they should have). I mentioned it to the hostess on the way out, and her response was "I know, I heard them....but they're gone now right?" Ruined what I'm sure was a treat for most families. Even if you didn't want to ask the table to leave, you should have sent the manager or someone over to apologize to the disturbed tables to ask if they would like to move. If they want to be a drunk bar, go for it, but I don't think that's what they are trying to be. Need better customer service.
Whenever we go to Newport a visit to The Mooring is a must. The oysters are spectacular. There are six different types of oysters, all fresh and tasty. The staff is friendly and have been at The Mooring for a long time. The view is worth the trip. Try the scallops, the lobster and the bread that comes in a paper bag warm and toasty. Another plus is that The Mooring has it's own parking which is a premium in Newport.
