“Spicy Prices”

This was an excellent dinner - but expensive. The service and food were very good but we weren't convinced about the expense of our meal. A meal for 4 - 2/3 courses per person and 1 bottle of wine was about $360.

“Nice lunch with a view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

We arrived at the Spiced Pear at the Chanler after walking Cliff Walk and combing the nearby beach for a 2:00 reservation made through Open Table. We were greeted warmly and promptly seated in a small quiet room at a table set for two facing the water. It is restaurant week in Newport and we were told the soup du jour and the panini du jour on the restaurant week menu. I am a pescatarian, but was hopping instead of the fried crab cake, they would just omit the meat in the panini to make it vegetarian. Unfortunately, they couldn't do this, so I was directed to either the Crab Cake or on the regular menu, the veggie burger. I went with the crab cake and my husband had the GQ burger. Our food was excellent as was our service. Overlooking the cliff, the dining room is elegantly set and would be hard to disappoint Our meals were generous, delicious and filling.

“Newport Restaurant Week”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

The Spiced Pear, located in the Chanler Hotel in Newport, is one of the best restaurants in Rhode Island. We love Newport Restaurant Week because it affords us the opportunity to dine at some of the finest restaurants for a very affordable price. With the 3-course prix fixe menu ($30) we get an appetizer, entree and dessert. These are not skimpy portions either. We ordered the mussels, cassoulet, bouillabaisse and apple pie for dessert. All were beautifully prepared and absolutely delicious. The kitchen is open to the front part of the dining room, and it is a treat to watch the chefs as they cook your meal. Our waiter was very attentive and engaging. Running a little late for a show, we asked him to box up our dessert to take with us, which he happily did. We have never been disappointed dining at the Spiced Pear. It is the perfect, romantic place.

Their food was great! We tried the GQ Burger and some appetizers the first night. Breakfast was great each morning as was the pizza at the bar.

“Great, but very expensive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2012

A great dining experience. But the price was steep. I am not sure the average diner will be happy with that. The atmospehere is great, food great, and the staff was top notch.
