Let me start off by saying the food was great I got the Ruben and loved every bite. Though the prices were a bit high. The waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. However the hostess was less the friendly told my parents she would not seat them tell me and my wife arrived (it was not busy at all) and even when she did finally seat them she said they would not service me and my wife unless we got are own table and that we could not sit with them however when we got there we just walked in ands at with them not stopping and the waitress did come up to us and take are orders only after my parents said we were going to eat and she acted surprised but took the orders. The uncomfortable part was the hostess gave us the evil eye the entire time practically. It's not like this was a 5 star black tie restaurant it was just plain ridiculous. Great food though.

We were excited to eat at this restaurant as it had come recommended. I had the crabs(the special). Wrong choice. 5 little crabs with no meat and soaked in grease. My husband had the clam chowder, which was good. I was really hoping for a fabulous meal and was sadly disappointed. Expensive lesson

A mixed bag. Hard to get a table - so make a reservation in advance if this is your goal. Expensive prices (several $$$ higher than their website) and for the price the food was average. (Yes, better than pub fare, but not by much) The Shrimp, Scallops and Lobster in puff pastry was wonderful, the Veal was OK, with plating lacking, potatoes and asparagus without any thought. View of the empty beer kegs out the window wasn't inspiring. Server was mediocre and somewhat aloof, although very observant when re-filling the wine glasses. Got the wrong meal the first try - and the place just isn't that big... So, not bad place, just not worth the price. Lots of great food nearby.

The Black Pearl is my favorite restaurant in Newport. In fact, if we are driving past Newport we will make it a point to stop into the Black Pears. Freshest oysters, seafood. Lovely atmosphere whether or not it is sunny or rainy and cold when it is cozy,

We were shown to our table and immediately noticed the happy atmosphere, everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves and also their food, the menu was not too extensive but there were lots of specials, exactly what you would expect from a wharf front restaurant. We both had fish of course and it was very fresh and well cooked. Highly recommended
