Atmosphere and service was ok but the chowder was watery and drink prices are not shown. So, if you order ice tea, you'll get hit with 3.25! I'd look around a little more if you're on the wharf.

We stayed at the Attwater Hotel and they recommended that we eat at Black Pearl. It is situated on a Wharf in the Centre of Newport. there is outdoor seating however there is a more limted menu which we were disappointed with as the area is beautoful and you are sitting just a few feet from yachts. We moved into the restaurant and it was noisy when we arrived but got les so when one party moved on. We had cod topped with pepperjack cheese and the lobster tail both of which were beautiful. Service was ok, waited a little long to have our order taken but everything worked out.

Chowder is a must.
Drinks at outside bar and take in the sites, and relax after a day sailing or shopping on Thames.
Staff is attentive and helpful in making selections.
Very busy on weekends but weekday no problem....at least in September.

We were a bit confused by the last negative ratings as the food was just excellent and the service very obliging!

We chose the lobster bisque and crab cake as our starters which were both absolutely delicious! For the main course we had scampis, scallops and lobster and we can't think of another place where we've eaten seafood prepared so freshly and tasty! Furthermore, the food went perfectly with the white wine the waiter recommended.

As a dessert, we also shared a crėme brulée and that was truly the icing on the cake! We will definitely be back!!

What a waste. Order a cup of chowder and leave. Everything else disappointing. Lobster over cooked and barely of size, salad nothing special and the service lacking. Better yet just buy the soup somewhere and take it home. It will be much more enjoyable.
