Arrived late afternoon, had to have lunch yet, as dinner had not begun. Wonderful place to enjoy our meal. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food, and the location. Lots of other thins to enjoy on the pier. A must on your trip to Newport. Also, recommended by our staff at the Long Wharf Inn by Wyndham.

We ordered the chowder, a Reuben sandwich and a burger. The chowder was poor with not a hint of a piece of fish floating around. The Reuben was stodgy and the meat unremarkable. The worst was the burger - a piece of meat between two slices of toast. Come on, even MacDonalds doesn't try that. Who would do that at home let alone expect it when you're out. And the fries, they were from McDonalds as far as they tasted. And the waitress was too busy kissing up to the larger groups to be anything but surly. No tip, no return. AVOID!

Went for a late lunch on a cold, winter day. We were seated immediately in the Tavern, the casual side of the restaurant that seats about 50 people. The wait staff are young and very friendly. The menu has something for everyone and we were also given a hand-written specials list with 6-7 daily specials. The daily specials included such dishes as: corned beef and cabbage soup, halibut and striped bass entrees, and shepherd's pie. The regular menu has chowders, chili, salads, omlets (if you arrive before 2:30), lobster rolls, burgers, sandwiches, chicken pot pie, and fish, chicken and beef entres. My husband had the shepherd's pie and declared it a winner. An ample portion, hearty and full of beef, with a nice crust of mashed taters. I had a Kobe burger, cooked medium with great fries. The table next to us stopped by for dessert and raved about the key lime pie and the hot fudge sundae. The only negative was the chairs which weren't very comfortable, but the good food and friendly waitresses get high marks. We will visit again whe we return to Newport.

Our recent lunch at the Black Pearl was a bit of mixed bag. Tables are very tightly packed - to an uncomfortable degree.

Our fried brie appetizer was terrific. The Thai Lobster Fish Cakes were very tasty, with lots of large chunks of lobster meat. My husband did not particularly enjoy his lamb stew, and I would have to agree that the view from my side of the table showed it to be mostly potato and very little lamb.

For Dessert -- The sticky toffee pudding was AWESOME! This rivaled the superb sticky toffee pudding that I've had in England and would be enough for me to make the trip back to Newport!
