Went with 12 business associates for. Dinner. Very disappointed. It really is a great old building with fantastic photos and memorabilia but the food and service were a disappointment. The wit staff let us wy over order appetizers, which were only fair. The shrimp tasted old, the crab cakes and calamari were just ok. The oysters nd calms were both very fresh, though. I would also not suggest people order the house cocktail, Newport Water. Not good at all. I will Sys my entree, the swordfish was pretty good nd it seemed like e other folks liked there entrees too. All in a I would probably not go back.

Stunning view from the third level restaurant. Dine on the open porch, watching the sunset. Fabulous menu and the food is quite exceptional. So far, my number one choice.

We arrived in Newport late afternoon and chose the Clarke Cooke House for its varied menu and location. It's right on the wharf and offers a lovely view of the boats. Although pricey, the meal was superb! I had freshly baked flounder with a delicious sauce of chopped tomatoes, capers and cheese. My husband enjoyed a glazed pork shop with roasted potatoes. We split a fresh dessert as well. One drawback, as with most seaside restaurants, is lack of air conditioning. We arrived in Newport during a heat wave so we sat at a table for two overlooking the wharf. We got the breeze, but we were also dodging the sun because the awning didn't cover enough. The table was also a bit small. You could also ask for seating upstairs. We were on the first floor. One thing for sure, you won't be disappointed in the meal. It was our most expensive, but definitely worth the splurge.

On the third level of a very old, very charming wharf building with an open air setting. The view over the harbor was exquisite. Sunset to the west was also incredible. Beautifully appointed, white table cloths, hurricane lamp candles, settees with pillows, flower boxes at every window, tuxedoed wait staff, bustling atmosphere. Top quality food and drinks. We had foie gras appetizer and gazpacho which were superb. Rib Eye, Filet Mignon and duck entrees were also top notch. Desserts were very good as well (creme brûlée, key lime pie, and a very creative snowball in hell!) Prices were steep but we were there on business.....

Although the Clarke Cooke House offers a charming historic ambiance, the food is overpriced and does not meet your expectations. From our personal dining experience we found the caesar salad to be saturated in dressing. The chicken sandwich is very dry and over cooked. The grand finale was the lobster roll. You are paying for a lot of bread and celery and it keeps you wondering where the hell the lobster is. The only item brought to the table that was good was the clam chowder, however you will get much better new england clam chowder next door at the Black Pearl. I recommend passing on this restaurant as there are so many others to choose from in Newport.
