Castle Hill Lighthouse in not easy to find. It is off Ocean Drive near Castle Hill Inn. The lighthouse is a short walk down a path from inn's parking lot (easier to do if your are staying at the inn). The lighthouse is small and you can't get inside, but the views are fantastic and it would be a great place to watch the sunset.

We have been going to Newport for years and never knew this lighthouse was here. It is a beautiful view! So worth the trip. My only complaint is that the lighthouse is being repaired, there was scaffolding all around it that affected what pictures you could take. We defiantly want to come back here next year.

We had a hard time finding this place but realized that one needs to go through the hotel property. We were not staying there and had no issue to visit it. Actually, as we could not see it, we ask about it at the hotel valet parking. The young man told us to park at the end of the parking and take the trail from there.
Great photo spot.

Castle Hill is a small lighthouse, but it definately gives the impression of being a tough one. Sort of a squat little granite tower squished iinto the cliff.

There are two ways to get to it. One is to park at Castle Hill Inn. This is officially a private parking lot, but I've never heard of anyone getting into trouble parking here. Go to the left lot as you approach the Inn and park as far away from the Inn as you can. The path to the lighthouse starts from this parking lot. There is a sign. (As an aside, the Castle Hill Inn has great views of Naragansett Bay. It's supposed to be a five star restaurant, or you can just stop to have a drink.)

The path to the lighthouse isn't real well marked, but it's a short walk and it would be hard to get lost. Once to the lighthouse, you can walk around it, but that's about it. No informative signs or anything.

The other way of getting there is to park at the Coast Guard Station a little further down the coast. I haven't done this, but it is supposedly allowed.

If you're interested in pictures, you probably need to get back a little from the lighthouse. This isn't as easy as you might think. You can get to the side towards the Inn by walking out on the rocks just before you get to the lighthouse. Walking on these rocks isn't overly dangerous. You don't need to go close to the cliff (you can though, so if you have youngsters keepo them close).

The bettrer photo ops are probabl;y on the other side of the lighthouse. to get to this side, you have to go back out from the lighthouse to the main trail. There's an easy entrance to the rocks a litle further down. Note thaty this is an EASY entrance. If you turn too soon you may come to a more difficult entrance.

OK, all that said, is it worth the trip? If you're taking the Ocean Drive parking and walking to the lighthouse will probably only take 10 - 15 minutes. It's definately worth that. If you're stopping at Castle Hill Inn anyway I can't imagine why you wouldn't walk to the lighthouse before you leave.
