Description: Our outstanding simply sumptuous restaurant, Muse, has earned myriad awards and accolades since its opening in 2011. With a strong focus on what it takes to be a leading restaurant in Newport, Rhode Island, Muse has a loyal following amongst residents of New England in addition to the gourmet guests. Muse is open daily for dinner, with service commencing at 6pm and running later on weekends. This awarded hotel restaurant is an echo of the bygone era in which dinner was the centerpiece of the day and Newport social scene. The dining room itself reflects this style with period features contributing to a freshly modern and inviting aesthetic.

The culinary genius behind the famed White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport, Jonathan Cartwright, has achieved another milestone with his restaurant at the Vanderbilt Grace Hotel. Dining at Muse is an event! The setting is intimate, the service superb yet not fussy. We were celebrating a birthday, and were greeted with a complementary glass of the house champagne. Choices from the prie fixe menu are numerous, and are augmented by several selections of tasting portions from the chef. We chose the scallops to start. They were large scallops prepared with lemongrass and other aromatic spices. Absolutely delicious! The lobster bisque was smooth and velvety. Our main selection was the poached lobster, a very generous serving exquisitely presented. It is exactly what one would expect from a chef who has spent many years on the Maine coast. Desserts are decadent most especially the chocolate. The wine list offers many bottles that are reasonably priced along with vintages that are more costly. Muse is is not to be missed when celebrating a special occasion or when seeking an exceptional and memorable dining experience.

Positives:
- FOOD- incredible. I recommend the tasting menu. In addition to our courses, the chef kept sending out small tastings in between courses (no doubt because there were so few people in the restaurant, see below)

Negatives:
- Ambiance is too intimate?- this is a very small, intimate restaurant with ten tables. We went the weekend after Labor Day and we were one of three tables filled. It was almost too intimate and a bit uncomfortable as the four other people in the restaurant could definitely hear our conversation

Experience:
This was one of the best (maybe THEE best) meals of my life. My boyfriend and I got the tasting menu and were impressed with every meal. The quality of the food and service was amazing. One of the sous-chefs came out at the end of our meal to see how we liked everything.

If you are in Newport, you MUST come here. I highly recommend the tasting menu so you get a little bit of everything. The portions are what you would expect at a restaurant of this caliber (pretty small) so you will definitely have room for everything. The menu changes frequently but I recommend the lobster bisque- they bring out a bowl of lobster and basically pour heavy cream (the broth) from a kettle into the bowl.

If you are planning to drive to dinner, please know the only option at the hotel is valet.

Had a fabulous meal here...The atmosphere was romantic with a fireplace and piano player. The food was exceptional (i am a foodie). Andrew the sommelier made sure it was a wonderful evening. This should definitely be one of two places for an exceptional meal in Newport (the other being Bouchard's)

We had the best dinner at Muse. I wish we could go back there right now, it was perfect in every way. The food was wonderful, the atmosphere is upscale and classic, and the service is great. The cocktails are creative too. We were blessed to have Babs as our waitress, and she made the evening complete. Everything about this restaurant is top notch. I highly recommend.

Muse had been recommended to us by our innkeeper so we chose this lovely place to celebrate our wedding day!! The restaurant is small and very elegant. Beautiful original artwork on the walls, spectacular iron "artwork" chandeliers, large fireplace with a roaring fire, and impeccable service. We chose the 4 course prix fix menu ($85pp) with it's many yummy and creative choices. Each course was masterfully plated and served, the flavors were perfectly melded and, again, the service was wonderful. We were surprised after each course with a small "extra" course...pre-dessert, after-dessert, after-after-dessert. 2 1/2 hours later we headed home happy and with a pampered feeling that only comes from well orchestrated service and impeccable cuisine. Would highly recommend. By the way, their classic martini was excellent!!
