It is exquisite with a fabulous view. As we pulled into the driveway, magic happened. Once inside, feast your eyes.

We only saw the gardens as part of the Secret Garden tour but we loved the camels, the views from the garden and the stone bridge! Lovely setting!

Rough Point, Doris Duke's Newport mansion, is a marvelous place to visit should one have the chance. The art, the history, the historic furniture, the view, it all combines for an unparalleled visit!

Having toured The Breakers, Marble House, Chateau Sur Mer, The Elms and RoseCliff, we hadn't planned on touring a sixth mansion. Thankfully, we decided to tour Rough Point on the final day of our trip to Newport. While all the mansions of Newport are beautiful and unique, in their own way, I prefer the architecture of Rough Point (English Tudor style) to many of the others (more tasteful... not as gaudy). Also, because Doris Duke lived at Rough Point into the 90s, it was better preserved and furnished than many of the other mansions. Finally, because Doris Duke (and her father, James Buchanan Duke) was so passionate about antiques and art, the home has an amazing collection of one-of-a-kind pieces (especially the Tiffany Swan centerpiece). Our tour guide (Renee) was excellent and knew just about ever piece in the house as well as relayed stories about Doris Duke she had heard from her former staff. Definitely worth the money!!!

Unlike the other mansions, Doris's is huge but not too big...somehow even though it's a mansion, you can sort of see how you could live there! It's actually very Homey...could not get out of the Sunroom, it is just breathtaking!
