We took the Viking Trolley tour the Sunday before Hurricane Sandy was to hit the area. An excellent overview of Ocean Drive and Mansion Row. Our tour guide, Russ, was extremely knowledgeable about Newport's past and present history and delivered it and a very skillful and humorous manner, keeping our attention for the entire 1 and 1/2 hour tour. He also covered food and menus on the tour, which we found very helpful when we went to lunch afterwards. His review of the Brick Alley Pub was right on the money! I highly recommend this tour as a great introduction to the city when traveling or vacationing in Newport.

Took this tour with a group of 25. We were able to arrange for the trolley to pick us up at the Naval Station gate. What great service. The price was also a bargain. The tour guide had great knowledge of the city, and was very interesting. Definitely Recommend!

My husband and I did the Grand mansion tour while we were there. The sites are breath taking and the guide was very knowledged about New port. We visited the Breakers but they one hour alloted for the tour was not good enough so we have to go back on our own steam in the future. WE found out after we booked the tour that you can take the public bus for like $4 or $5 dollars for a day pass and then you can have the driver validate your tickets and your parking at the Newport visitor center is free. We had to pay $20 to park near the visitors center, parking is expensive there. So next time we will take public transport and visit all the mansions. The Breakers tour was excellent and you get an audio player to listen to various information about the different rooms in the house.

We took a Viking Tours Newport city tour after visiting two of the mansions in the morning. It was convenient and informative, if not inspirational. The Newport Visitor and Information Center is a well-organized, genuinely helpful organization where tickets and advice are provided. We bought tickets there the day our ship was in port--at a major savings over cruise tour prices. (The Center is just a short walk from the dock.) Passengers are picked up at the Center, dropped back there at end of tour. Caveat: Our bus driver/tour guide made consistent derogatory comments about marriages and women under the guise of humor, using old worn jokes. It was wearing and offensive.

We took the "overview" Newport tour because we didn't have much time and wanted to see as much of Newport as possible in the limited time available. This 1.5 hour tour was perfect for us. Our driver, Russell, gave very interesting commentary and history or the Newport area, and was very knowledgeable about the history and colorful characters that have built and lived in the amazing homes in the local area. Wish history in school had been presented this well!

Highly recommended.
