On a recent trip to Newport, at the recommendation of a co-worker of my wife, who happens to be the owner's father, we ate here and across the street at the Wharf Pub. We had Sunday lunch here and the food was really good mexican with a twist. First, the guacamole was excellent, the accompanying chips, fresh and plentiful. We also sampled the shrimp rangoons which were also very tasty -- and hot!

For our main meal we had the pulled pork taco - El Cerdo with a nice zing to the sauce- and the Perfect Quesadillas. Both were delicious and if anything over ample.

Given we had been told the food was top drawer, and it was, what surprised us was the value. Two appetisers, two entrees, plenty of libations and tip all under $35/person. A steal of a meal. Dad has every right to be proud.

This was recommended to us by a woman at an information stand on the street and she was spot on!

Great food (all manner of *good* Mexican, not the kind that tastes like they dumped sauce out of a can), really friendly waitstaff, great ambiance, and as we were staying in the Marriott only a few short blocks away it was perfectly located.

Thoroughly enjoyed a reasonably authentic Mexican meal at Diego's, certainly the best of those I tried on this particular visit to Newport Beach. Staff were friendly and helpful with a particular mention for the bar tender who was really friendly to a stranger in town.

No specific highlights foodwise, it was all well cooked and attractively served although the portions were way too large for my appetite. I'd certainly return next time I find myself in the area.

It is hard to find a quality meal in such a tourist town, we have been looking for years and found only a few, but Diego's is great. This is real Mexican food and it is delicious. Try the salsa sampler with chips, 4 different salsas and guacamole. A bottomless serving for 10 bucks.
The fish tacos are great, 3 large tacos with either grilled or fried fish with a side of rice and beans.
The margaritas are very good made any way you like.
The wait staff is good and like most Mexican places the food comes out fast.
You will not be bowled over by the prices here, great food for a reasonable price.

My husband and two other couples stopped in at Diego's for a drink. Great time, awesome drinks and appetizers! Chris, the bartender was incredibly welcoming and fun. When spending money at a restaurant, it truly makes a difference if you feel welcome, and Chris certainly made us all feel that way. We will definitely be back!
