Owner description: Enjoy a breathtaking motor boat tour of Newport Harbor and relive the speed and thrill of the chase of the smuggler boats from the days of Prohibition. Motor yacht Rum Runner II, which was originally built for two New Jersey mobsters to elude the Coast Guard offers the luxury of a classic yacht and intrigue you would imagine of a high-speed bandit motor boat with a history all her own while touring Newport Harbor.

“Fantastic tour, very knowledgable captain.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2013

We spent a beautiful hour and a half slowly exploring the lighthouses, coves and magnificent waterfront properties that line Newport Harbor on a recent weekend. The tour starts out with a complimentary mimosa and little pastries that the kids enjoyed. As you slowly proceed out of the Marina, the captain and first mate begin pointing out interesting facts about properties and historic/famous vessels moored in the harbor. The boat itself is incredible and full of history. We luckily had perfect weather and calm water that helped us enjoy the trip even more. Not a tourist trap by any means...worth every dollar! Thanks for the experience Rum Runner II.

“Fun way to see the harbor!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013 via mobile

We enjoyed a very leisurely cruise around the harbor. Although the sunset cruise is not narrated, they did point out a few highlights in and along the harbor such as Hammersmith Farm and House on the Rock. Rum Punch is served on the sunset cruise, however there is a cooler full of iced tea and bottled water for those who do not drink (like my husband and me). The staff are very friendly and attentive.
We enjoyed the ride so much that we came back the next day for the narrated lighthouse tour. Although it was clear sunshine at the wharf, there was a thin haze out over the harbor. When we got out near Castle Hill we couldn't see much but the captain wisely used the opportunity to open up the motor to its full capacity and gave us an exciting ride across the harbor to Jamestown. They had sped up the motor during the sunset cruise too...they do it on every ride...it was a highlight with the kids on board.
The narration is very interesting and informative. For those who are concerned about getting seasick, this is a very smooth ride. This is a great activity for all ages, however those with mobility issues should ask for assistance on the dock as it does sway a bit. The staff are happy to help.

“Excellent boat ride on the bay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

We visited Newport during the heat wave and took a boat ride to cool off in the beautiful breezes. After reading the reviews on the Rumrunner II, we took the cruise in the afternoon and were not disappointed. The captain took us to all the usual sites...the mansions, yachts, shipping yard, lighthouse but got up more closely than other cruises we took. Free ice tea and water just added to the pleasantries of the trip. Another girl explained the history on a few sites. Then the captain took the boat a little further out and revved the engines, explaining how the boat was on time used to run rum during Prohibition and took us to the buoy where the rumrunners met their fate. It's a great story and the boat really takes off which makes for a beautiful breeze. They offer a rum sunset cruise but we had already take a sunset cruise with Amazing Grace which we thoroughly enjoyed, too. Be sure to take a harbor excursion while visiting Newport. You get views of the mansions, etc. that you could never find, especially since Super Storm Sandy damaged half of the cliff walk along the mansions.
